It's not a bug. It's by design.

Added option in v16.1. You have to re-apply the toggle based on the check.

After disabling this, my widgets no longer work. Get the old style icon in the task bar and does nothing. It should have returned to the weather / news in the corner.

@0xLunch you should enable widgets separately. there is a toggle for this in the app.

Im also having the exact same problem as 0xLunch, I have toggled the widget in the app but it still doesn't work, I have tried multiple fixes but nothing is getting the weather widget back, actually now I can't even click on the widgets, nothing shows up. How can I fix this??
