Overview

Users were unsure if the letter generator would add the text that was suggested. (It does.) As a result, a few users ended up with repeated text in the generated letter.
Four users expressed surprise, confusion, and/or concern when they saw phrases they did not write in the generated letter.
One user went back (using the back button) to understand what happened. On the “Why” page, he said, “So it says, Start with, for example, ‘I want to clear my record because...’ And then I did. But I don’t need that. Because it’s added in for me.”

Action Items

• Iterate on suggestion to show users upfront how the letter generator writing process works (for example, a visual that shows the process - see also issue). Collaborate with Design. (reduce surprise - increase clarity)
• Consider and iterate on how to tell users that auto-generated text will appear in their letter - collaborate with Design. (reduce surprise - increase clarity)
• Discuss in Content/iterate
• Finalize
• Link all appropriate documents/figma pages/etc. in the resource section below

Added to #982 for consideration in the redesign of the Advice page. Re-open if needed on a different page/area of the site, otherwise closing as unplanned.
