Overview

Given that this product is designed for the legal domain (clean slate policies and campaigns, legislation, criminal justice bureaucracy), accuracy and technical command are crucial.

An ongoing priority is to ensure continuous mastery over laws and policies related to expungement in CA. The objective is to ensure the team's internal understanding of expungement, continuous identification of related policies and laws tied to expungement, and to distill that information to communicate with other teams.

Action Items

  • Identify and summarize the most recent laws and policies on expungement, cite sources rigorously. Laws doc draft.
  • Discuss findings in upcoming research meetings
  • Create a shared document in Google
  • Add questions for interview phase here: Repository of questions for attorneys for interview phase #1364
  • Revise Wiki, glossary, other research documents, etc.
  • Communicate findings to UXR, Content and Design, All Teams

Resources/Notes

  • Product demo to Bonnie in Sept 2024
  • Slide deck on CA expungement laws from August 2023
  • Accompanying doc on User Demographic Info
  • Brainstorm on FigJam for discussion

Looks like overlap and confusion between this issue and what a glossary is for the glossary work. left a comment in the doc, I think that doc is better repurposed for this issue as the content covers the needs of this issue moreso than a glossary.

@SamHyler there isn't overlap. The associated doc is linked in the UXR glossary that you ref. Adding related doc on laws to original issue

@sylvia-nam is this a one-time task to be done, or is it something that needs to be done on a recurring basis?

@raeraeicky it is a recurring need

@raeraeicky it is a recurring need

In that case, since this is a first iteration that includes creating documents, I would suggest we do this one time and set a deadline for that to be done, and then one of the action items would be to determine how often this is repeated (every 6 months? annually? more frequently, but on. a smaller scale?). Let me know what you think! cc: @saraisabelcf

Sounds good @raeraeicky. One option is to set it annually every summer given how the legislative year is structured + ad hoc changes based on fall election props
