HPE Design System Research

The HPE Design System is a research-validated design language that is responsive to research activities that inform, validate and generate human-centered components and patterns for the HPE digital ecosystem.


Activities

  • Formal recorded listening sessions: once a quarter
    • 30min session
    • 5-8 participants
    • 'Problem Space' research to gather insights about our customer's needs
  • Moderated usability studies
    • Executed as needed based on listening sessions, community voice, product releases.
    • 30 min sessions
    • 5-8 participants
    • Data gathering and collecting key insights about our customer's "hands-on" use of the Design System
  • Unmoderated usability studies
    • As required/needed to quickly gather data for making design decisions
    • Includes A/B testing, click tests, tree tests, etc.
    • Can be executed within a few days
  • Consuming service/product team research
    • Taking in data/insights from external research sources
    • Contributes to our connection with teams and builds solidarity and community engagement

Usability Studies

February 2020 - Unmoderated usability study

  • 22 total internal participants (14 designers, 8 developers)
  • The study was a pilot for both the use of the UserZoom platform, as well as to provide a first look at the existing Design System website

May 2020 - Unmoderated usability study

  • 12 Total Participants
    • 1 Developer
    • 11 Designers
    • 4 screened out with no Figma account
    • 2 abandoned at the form task
