I noticed a quick appraisal of Loomio/Enspiral as having CMMI Level 1 (cf. #421), and it got me thinking: what's our CMMI maturity level?

CMMI models provide guidance for developing or improving processes that meet the business goals of an organization. A CMMI model may also be used as a framework for appraising the process maturity of the organization.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capability_Maturity_Model_Integration

An organization cannot be certified in CMMI; instead, an organization is appraised. Depending on the type of appraisal, the organization can be awarded a maturity level rating (1-5) or a capability level achievement profile.

Subject: help with CMMI appraisal?

Gáspár,

Your post about Loomio/Enspiral's organizational maturity prompted me to put the question to my own organization, Gratipay. I also noticed on your website that you have an interest in open-source and process improvement, so I figured I'd reach out—once your studies have settled down, we'd love to have you help us at Gratipay with appraising and improving our organizational processes! :-)

Feel free to jump in on this ticket if you're so inclined:

Good luck with your thesis! :-)

Wow. I'm glad to talk about it next week :)
Thank you!

Awesome, thanks! :D

What time zone are you in? Basel / CEST, yes? Either of these times work for you for an open call next week?

  • Tuesday, June 14 at 15h30 (3:30 PM) Basel time (CEST)
  • Wednesday, June 15 at 14h30

P.S. Since Gratipay is an open company, I need to at least summarize our private email thread over there, publicly, on GitHub:

Yes, CEST. Tuesday seems okay.
Ok, thanks for mentioning. Seems like an effort worth helping :)
Best, Gaspar

Awesome! I mixed up the time, though ... can we do 16h30 (4:30 PM) on Tuesday instead of 15h30?

And does Google Hangouts on Air work for you?

If that's all good, I will plan to send a link to this email address next Tuesday at 16h30.

Yes, 1630 is even better. But I have a limited time only so please send an agenda.
Air? Mac? I have Win in the office, Chrome should be ok I guess.
Cal invite is a good thing.

Hangouts on Air should work in Chrome on any OS.

In terms of putting together an agenda: What is your experience with CMMI appraisals? Is that a process you have expertise in and can guide us through?

Also, do you have a GitHub account? It would be great to have this conversation directly on this ticket. :-)

Cal invite is a good thing.

I believe I've sent an invite. If not, please let me know! :-)

I'm no expert in CMMI :) But hopefully you can benefit from my process improvement experience.
I got the invite but please modify it to 17-1730.

We're going to do a private Skype call. Summary to follow ...

Okay! We had a 15 minute introductory call. ☎️

@sicambria Our existing process documentation is at http://inside.gratipay.com/. Any effort you're able to give to reviewing that documentation and proposing some "quick win" improvements and/or high-level recommendations would be much appreciated!

Additionally, you mentioned a resource that lists multiple process improvement frameworks including CMMI. I'd love to see that, so we can come up with a good approach for managing process improvement here at Gratipay.

Thanks! :-)
