I applied for a Shuttleworth Foundation grant last fall (#297). I didn't get it. The next application cycle closes May 1.

After a call with Shuttleworth COO Karien Bezuidenhout, I've decided not to apply. Gittip is funded on Gittip.

Why the decision not to apply (I haven't watched the Hangouts call, so forgive me if there's hints there)? I suppose the call with the COO was not recorded?

@tshepang Because Gittip is funded on Gittip. I wasn't ready to take money in another way that would've required a Shuttleworth logo in the footer of our website.

I think that was the correct decision. Gittip having another's logo on it like that would be like PayPal having the Shuttleworth foundation's logo on its pages or Dwolla having the PayPal logo. I for one wouldn't take Gittip seriously anymore.

Think the same applies to #1607 by the way...

@whit537 what's the issue with having that foundation's logo on Gittip site? And, would you have accepted if there was no requirement for a logo?

@tshepang The logo in the footer symbolizes the fact means we're not funded on ourselves, we're funded some other way. I expect we wouldn't have accepted the funding even without the logo, unless the funding ran through Gittip itself.
