Multi-Language routing and slug-overrides

I'm looking for a tool to create a multilingual website and Grav seems to be a good fit. The section "Multi-Language Routing" of the documentation (https://learn.getgrav.org/17/content/multi-language#multi-language-routing) says the following:

This combined with appropriate slug-overrides in the other files should result in a URL of http://yoursite.com/animaux/mammiferes/ours which is much more French looking!

But how can this english folder structure

- 01.animals
  - 01.mammals
    - 01.bats
    - 02.bears

be presented as french? Is there a way to add multiple language slugs to a folder to achieve "slug-overrides"?

Or do I have to define route aliases to each page as described here: https://learn.getgrav.org/17/content/headers#routes ?

I started the weekend with some testing and got a better understanding of how this works. A folder in Grav is in the end the page itself and not a place to collect multiple pages of a topic.
