I've been constructing my own model drone and need to place 4 lidar sensors in specific places. I assumed since the docs say that if i add true to my sensor i can see the rays that make up the lidar, but when I open the model in Gazebo, the sensor is not visible. Am I misunderstanding the functionality of this feature?

The functionality is available via the "Visualize Lidar" GUI plugin in Gazebo, but it currently doesn't automatically get loaded when <visualize> is true. You'd have to manually add the plugin.
