Controlling Freewheeling

Freewheeling can be played with a lot of different controllers. For example QWERTY keyboards, mouses and MIDI keyboards. This requires the proper Freewheeling configuration for your controllers. Inside the configuration we can link controller values to Freewheeling functionality. The default configuration is a good starting point.

Default key bindings

While using freewheeling, you can press the / key to show the default key bindings.

QWERTY keyboards

Refer to this table for the Default Key Bindings.

Non-US and other keyboards

These require a custom configuration. There is an AZERTY kaybord configuration example in the Configurations section of this wiki.

Controllers on the market

MIDI gear like footswitches, pedalboards and mixers. In fact any MIDI device will work after you connect it to your midi-interface. Here are some controllers used by other Freewheelers:

If you configure the 1010 to use the MIDI Note function it sends a Note On upon pressing down a pedal and a Note Off (Note On 0, actually) upon releasing it. They are only 150$ and have 10 or so footswitches and 2 expression pedals. Remember that Freewheeling can be setup to respond to any MIDI message - not just noteon/noteoff, but also controller ranges or program changes.
