Theoretically, any board supported by the ESP8266 Arduino core should work.

The following boards have been successfully tested:

Node MCU 0.9
Node MCU 1.0
WeMos D1
ESP-12 Make sure to use a regulated 500 mA or greater power supply.
ESPectro Core

Users have reported issues attempting to use the following ESP8266 boards with Firmata:
