Summary

Users who search a term on https://www.fec.gov/updates and get no results are getting a confusing and outdated message. See #2747 for background. The content team has drafted new wording; this issue is to implement the new message.

Proposed Behavior / Feature

We'd like to change the message to read:

We didn’t find any pages matching “(insert the term searched”)

While all press releases, weekly digests and tips for treasurers are searchable, FEC Record articles published before 2005 exist only in PDF format and are not included in these search results. Please try another search or visit our archive of Record articles from 1975-2004 (link to https://transition.fec.gov/pages/fecrecord/fecrecord.shtml").

For assistance, contact the FEC (link the contact page at https://www.fec.gov/contact/).

Current Situation

Here's the current message:

Use Case

Everyone who searches for tips, Record articles, press releases and weekly digests
