User story As a citizen who needs to know information about voting on Election Day, I think the FEC would be the logical choice to find the information.
Background Every Election Day, the Information Division is swamped with callers to the FEC looking for typical voting information, like polling place hours, voter registration issues, and election results. None of which the FEC handles, as the agency's focus is federal campaign finance law.
To assist these callers, we developed a page on the transition site - kind of one stop shopping on Election Day to direct people to the right information. (The transition page is de-activated after Election Day, as we have a regular page directing voters to election information at https://www.fec.gov/introduction-campaign-finance/election-and-voting-information/.)
The transition page (https://transition.fec.gov/info/election_day_links.shtml) now needs to be updated for our current website style and into our CMS. This is work that can be done by an assigned specialist in the Information Division.
Completion criteria
Info Div specialist: Draft updated text for the new page, replacing the old FAQ format with current style of writing.
Info Div specialist: Make new page in Wagtail (child page of citizens' portion)
Content team: Review new page to ensure it meets site guidelines Page needs to be published on Election Day (November 6, 2018)
Content team: Create a banner for use on Election Day that will point to the new page. Banner needs to be published on Election Day (November 6, 2018)
In doublechecking links, I've found that vote.gov's links on usa.gov actually provide inaccurate information about what the FEC does. (We don't do anything with voting; that's a matter of state laws helped by the EAC.) I've sent them feedback, but for now I'd recommend we only link to the DOJ's and EAC's information or our own.
I've sent a draft for both the page and the banner to Info. Division management and the content team for review. Once I receive those edits, I'll create the page and schedule the banner.
The content team signed off on the content of the page. I've created it in Wagtail and it's ready to publish when we're ready to go. We're prepping the banner next.
