Hello @nachomaiz, Thanks for the feedback. We want to avoid having a dashboard cluttered by too many numbers. If you have a good idea as to how to integrate it, we'll take a look. However, so far we haven't found any way of doing so without compromising on simplicity and ease of understanding. Olivier |
Thanks for your response. I have read through the linked issues/reports and
they sound relatively reasonable. However issue #101 was, in my opinion,
unsatisfactory in its explanation, or its subsequent resolution.
I understand this is a subjective matter, but in my opinion the problem I
see stems out of the need to visualize capacity vs actual production. This
visualization does not allow for a comprehensive understanding of the
proportion that each source of electricity has and thus, in my opinion,
hampers the communication of the idea that I understand this application
conveys: which countries are lacking in green energy implementation and
which countries excel in it. In my opinion, it is important to understand
how a country decides it's energy policies and what is prioritized in each
country.
Based on my interpretation of the data presented as well as other issues
linked to the thread #101 it seems that, for example, France and Italy have
a similar energy policy, while the reality is very far from that
interpretation. France derives a very significant majority of its energy (I
want to say 80%?) from nuclear, which clearly should put France at an
advantage in terms of green energy production. Same with Germany, which
produces a large portion of its energy from solar but at this moment we
cannot easily discern how much is derived from solar at different times in
proportion to their overall energy needed/produced.
Ultimately, I feel knowing that, for example, Spain produces 25% of its
energy from nuclear but 45% from LNG is important enough to warrant
"cluttering" the interface with one more line of text. That's what can be
easily inferred visually from displaying a total GW production per country.
But I understand that putting % numbers in each source of energy would
indeed clutter the interface, while mentally comparing 5GW of solar and
25GW of coal to 90GW production could be a reasonable compromise.
Total capacity vs used capacity is great but ultimately, in terms of global
warming effects that individuals can understand and affect through
political action is the proportion of energy needs that each country
derives from clean sources.
Obviously this is my opinion and I might be overlooking an important aspect
of the development process. But I still think that, aside from being merely
informative, this application aims to educate the public as to how their
country is actually deciding energy policy.
I would love to know your opinion on this.

Hello, Thanks for the writeup. I don't know if you noticed but we added a tooltip when you pass your cursor over one of the bars in the country panel: We can put some more information in that tooltip, such as for example the ratio of that production type compared to total production (and total consumption when we add it #147). We already have the load factor for example, so it wouldn't hurt to add that extra number. What do you think? Does that address your comment? If it does, let's re-open the issue and implement it. |
Oh, I did not notice the tooltip. I'd say it would address the issue but I
wouldn't want to impose features on your creation. If you think it is
interesting then great! Glad to help a cool project in any way I can. Good
luck!
Disclaimer, the application kind of reminded me of the game Factorio (if
you know what that is) and thus more information is always better. So that
is what prompted me to talk about that.

Hi, I loved your project but I would love to see some total numbers for each country, such as GW production and total kilotons of CO2 produced. You can add it from each source of energy but I think it would be very informative to show it the totals as well. Cheers!
