After discussion on 8/17, we should probably revise this somewhat. Asynchronous wiring may not be necessary, if we instead have the tileservice verify license (with or without caching) on each tile request. The plugin then could just modify the pointer to the tileservice in the yml on startup. That would imply few (if even no) changes to Kibana, as the plugin could be responsible for this. |

Hi @thomasneirynck , i knew someone quite interested in this, just for the rest of us does x-plugins mean it will be only part of the commercial pack eg.. with shield etc? just for planning. thanks! |

@JackRyanson We are looking into advanced tile service functionality through xpack, which is probably why @thomasneirynck moved this discussion there. Rest assured that any pluginability that's required to make that happen will be available in Kibana core as all of the plugins in xpack take advantage of the open source plugin api that's available to anyone. |

@JackRyanson And if you have any specific needs in terms of tile map pluginability, I recommend that you open specific issues for those feature requests. |

A plugin in Kibana should be able to hook into the map visualization.
This is useful when plugins need to modify the mapping provider.
This mechanism would need to work asynchronously as well, since some mapping providers only provide access to the tile service after a sign-in step. Right now, Kibana hits the TMS services directly.
