Thanks for catching this -- there are a number of things that have changed starting in 7.5 as we have worked to migrate the visualizations infrastructure to the new Kibana platform.

Unfortunately, the docs are more confusing than they are helpful in their current state, because this area of code has been under heavy active development for quite some time now.

As a result, we are temporarily removing the docs on these internal visualizations APIs until we are done creating the new visualizations plugin, at which point we should be able to update everything with more accurate information.

At this point our recommendation is to wait on upgrading custom plugins until later in 7.x if possible. If not, here are a few resources:

• The breaking changes documentation, where we try to capture any changes to the APIs as they occur across minors.
• Meta issue which is tracking the move of the plugin to the new Kibana platform
• Our Elastic Stack workspace on Slack or discussion forums.
• The source code, which will continue to be the most accurate source of information.
