When running on Elastic Cloud we have the opportunity to tailor error messages and make them more useful.

Some examples (not limited to):

  • if no ml nodes are configured, provide link to cloud mgmt console to guidance on how to setup an ml node
  • if a job cannot open due to insufficient resources, provide link and guidance for how to increase capacity
  • if a long running job is stopped by OOM, provide guidance on how to recover

Some more research required as to scope of this ticket. We already know if we are running in EC, but also need to investigate how we find url link to console.

Has there been any progress made in this area? I've ran into it a few times and accidentally created a duplicate issue: #43359

The first suggestion

if no ml nodes are configured, provide link to cloud mgmt console to guidance on how to setup an ml node

has been addressed in 7.5.0 by #50139.

Bumping this thread up as the linked PR doesn't put a Cloud console link on the page when no ML nodes are running. Tested on 7.5.1 and the more recent 7.7.0.

This is causing confusion to Cloud users as there's no in-product guidance to let users know how to enable ML nodes.

I've tested this with 7.7.0 on Cloud, when ML is disabled I see the appropriate warning.
Clicking the link takes me to the Cloud deployment to configure.

@osmanis what configuration are you using to see this behaviour?

@jgowdyelastic Here's my deployment:

  • 7.7.0
  • azure-east-2

It's a standard Cloud deployment where I didn't deviate from any of the default settings after creation.
