Dashboard smaller grid size

I know this is a labs visualization but the amount of whitespace we have for input controls has been bugging me. Is there a way to reduce the whitespace or spread it out dynamically?

In my attempt resize to reduce this, I also came across this bug in 6.1

The bottom is a known issue, discussed here: #13982, but that isn't a great issue for documenting it. Difficult to get around because of the way we want the drop down boxes to appear in front of other panels, outside the boundaries of the panel.

I think the best way to handle this might be to make the rows smaller on the grid, so the available heights aren't so different and you can pick a better one.

Other option is to try to stretch vertically to take up all the available vertical space, but that might look weird with a really tall panel. Though I guess a really tall panel would look weird no matter what.
