  1. Create a new visualization
  2. Click on Visual Builder
  3. Kibana asks you to select an index pattern. (Which you shouldn't have to do)

Silly question as a newbie to TSVB: Why shouldn't I select an index. Surely I need to say which data I'm trying to vizualize?

It's not necessary since you can set an arbitrary index pattern under "Panel Options", unlike the rest of the visualizations that require a saved Kibana Index Pattern.

Looks like our Time Series visualization always resets to use default index in Panel Options.
Isn't it possible to select a different index?
