Docs: Drop inline callouts #38335
Comments
Inline callouts look like this:
In asciidoctor all callouts have to be at the end of the line. |
Right now we don't have an enforcement mechanism to make sure that we can build the docs with asciidoctor. It wouldn't pass anyway because of a couple of this and one other strange failure in the reference docs. We also can't current run asciidoctor in CI, but I'm working on that too. |
Coalesces two calls into one in a scroll example so all callouts are at the end of the line. This is the only sort of callouts that are supported by asciidoctor and we'd like to start building our docs with asciidoctor. At present we don't have any mechanism to stop folks adding more inline callouts but we ought to be able to have one in a few weeks. For now, though, removing these inline callouts is a step in the right direction. Relates to elastic#38335

I'm pretty sure in my use of Asciidoctor (years ago) call-outs were supported. A quick search of their docs seems to confirm this: https://asciidoctor.org/docs/user-manual/#callouts Maybe it's the inline callouts that are problematic but end-of-line ones are fine? |

We've not going to support inline callouts in asciidoctor. We're going to need to drop all of them from all branches of our docs before we can build them with asciidoctor. We use them fairly frequently in the SQL docs but they are rare otherwise.
