RFC REST API v2

Introduction

This Request For Comments (RFC) page is used to develop and evolve a new REST-API v2 which supports a broader range of devices. Conceptual ideas should be added in respective sections. Until we have figured out a path to move forward, sections with very different approaches are more than welcomed.

The related GH issue #1688 should be used for general discussion of the topic.
