When installed via homebrew, the formula adds this patch
https://bitbucket.org/mituharu/emacs-mac/pull-requests/2/add-multi-tty-support-to-be-on-par-with/diff, which purports to solve the multi-tty issue. The user experience I've had with emacs-plus is not a good one.

I've bounced between emacs-mac and emacs-plus myself. Currently emacs-plus 27 and 28 are quite slow and laggy for me where as emacs-mac is pretty smooth. Switching to emacs-mac had a noticeable improvement:

  • Startup times improved by 3-5 seconds
  • Holding down j or k would move down the file faster and more smooth motion
  • No hanging between keypresses, switching buffers, or frame resizing

Will report in if any major problems are encountered.
