Npm v7 introduced a "feature" that changed any
github:urls to bessh+giturls, which broke CI as we didn't have ssh read permissions to public 3rd party repos. This caused us to keep our npm versions at v6. Npm v8 doesn't fix the problem, but it seems CI or github fixed the issues on their end as the CI install process now installs without issues, so we can now update to latest npm version.
