BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1879711 This option seems to introduce failures when resuming from hibernation on Xen t2 instance types, especially those with a small amount of memory (e.g., t2.nano and t2.small). With this option enabled device drivers are allowed to use the Contiguous Memory Allocator (CMA) for DMA operations. So, drivers can allocate large physically-contiguous blocks of memory, instead of relying on the I/O map or scatter-gather support. However, on resume, the memory used by DMA needs to be re-initialized / re-allocated, but it may fail to allocate large chunks of contiguous memory due to the fact that we also need to restore the hibernation image, using more memory and causing a system hang during the resume process. Such failures are more likely to happen in systems with a small amount of memory (e.g., t2.nano and t2.small) that were showing a significant higher rate of failures. Make sure to disable this option for now on amd64 and re-align the config and annotations file with the master kernel. NOTE #1: this option has been disabled in the generic kernel because, according to the associated bug link (LP: #1362261), it seemed to introduce performance regressions on amd64, so there is no reason to do differently in the aws kernel. NOTE #2: this also disables the module 'etnaviv' (that is really not needed in the aws kernel); update the modules list accordingly. … initiator When a LUN_RESET TMR is being processed and an iSCSI connection is closed at the same time, cmd_kref goes to -1 causing multiple issues, that culminate in several threads hanging, which prevents the closed iSCSI connection from being re-established.

However, igc is like igb, runtime resume routine uses rtnl_lock() which upper ethtool layer also uses. So to prevent a deadlock on rtnl, take a different approach, use pm_runtime_suspended() to avoid reading register while device is runtime suspended. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908561 commit d412275 upstream. Speakup has only one speakup_tty variable to store the tty it is managing. This makes sense since its codebase currently assumes that there is only one user who controls the screen reading. That however means that we have to forbid using the line discipline several times, otherwise the second closure would try to free a NULL ldisc_data, leading to general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP KASAN PTI RIP: 0010:spk_ttyio_ldisc_close+0x2c/0x60 Call Trace: tty_ldisc_release+0xa2/0x340 tty_release_struct+0x17/0xd0 tty_release+0x9d9/0xcc0 __fput+0x231/0x740 task_work_run+0x12c/0x1a0 do_exit+0x9b5/0x2230 ? release_task+0x1240/0x1240 ? __do_page_fault+0x562/0xa30 do_group_exit+0xd5/0x2a0 __x64_sys_exit_group+0x35/0x40 do_syscall_64+0x89/0x2b0 ? page_fault+0x8/0x30 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44/0xa9 Cc: [email protected] Reported-by: 秦世松 <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Samuel Thibault <[email protected]> Tested-by: Shisong Qin <[email protected]> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20201110183541.fzgnlwhjpgqzjeth@function Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Kamal Mostafa <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Ian May <[email protected]>

BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908561 commit 481535c upstream. fast_second_level_miss handler for the TLBTEMP area has an assumption that page table directory entry for the TLBTEMP address range is 0. For it to be true the TLBTEMP area must be aligned to 4MB boundary and not share its 4MB region with anything that may use a page table. This is not true currently: TLBTEMP shares space with vmalloc space which results in the following kinds of runtime errors when fast_second_level_miss loads page table directory entry for the vmalloc space instead of fixing up the TLBTEMP area: Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address c7ff0e00 pc = d0009275, ra = 90009478 Oops: sig: 9 [#1] PREEMPT CPU: 1 PID: 61 Comm: kworker/u9:2 Not tainted 5.10.0-rc3-next-20201110-00007-g1fe4962fa983-dirty #58 Workqueue: xprtiod xs_stream_data_receive_workfn a00: 90009478 d11e1dc0 c7ff0e00 00000020 c7ff0000 00000001 7f8b8107 00000000 a08: 900c5992 d11e1d90 d0cc88b8 5506e97c 00000000 5506e97c d06c8074 d11e1d90 pc: d0009275, ps: 00060310, depc: 00000014, excvaddr: c7ff0e00 lbeg: d0009275, lend: d0009287 lcount: 00000003, sar: 00000010 Call Trace: xs_stream_data_receive_workfn+0x43c/0x770 process_one_work+0x1a1/0x324 worker_thread+0x1cc/0x3c0 kthread+0x10d/0x124 ret_from_kernel_thread+0xc/0x18 Cc: [email protected] Signed-off-by: Max Filippov <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Kamal Mostafa <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Ian May <[email protected]>

A qgroup rescan worker does the opposite: it acquires the mutex qgroup_rescan_lock, at btrfs_qgroup_rescan_worker(), and then tries to update the qgroup status item in the quota btree through the call to update_qgroup_status_item(). This inversion of locking order between the qgroup_rescan_lock mutex and quota btree locks causes the splat. Fix this simply by releasing and freeing the path before calling qgroup_rescan_init() at btrfs_read_qgroup_config(). BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908562 [ Upstream commit eb9c4dd ] If, for some reason, the xusb PHY fails to probe, it leaves a dangling pointer attached to the platform device structure. This would normally be harmless, but the Tegra XHCI driver then goes and extract that pointer from the PHY device. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908562 [ Upstream commit cef3970 ] Stefan Agner reported a bug when using zsram on 32-bit Arm machines with RAM above the 4GB address boundary: Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000000 pgd = a27bd01c [00000000] *pgd=236a0003, *pmd=1ffa64003 Internal error: Oops: 207 [#1] SMP ARM Modules linked in: mdio_bcm_unimac(+) brcmfmac cfg80211 brcmutil raspberrypi_hwmon hci_uart crc32_arm_ce bcm2711_thermal phy_generic genet CPU: 0 PID: 123 Comm: mkfs.ext4 Not tainted 5.9.6 #1 Hardware name: BCM2711 PC is at zs_map_object+0x94/0x338 LR is at zram_bvec_rw.constprop.0+0x330/0xa64 pc : [<c0602b38>] lr : [<c0bda6a0>] psr: 60000013 sp : e376bbe0 ip : 00000000 fp : c1e2921c r10: 00000002 r9 : c1dda730 r8 : 00000000 r7 : e8ff7a00 r6 : 00000000 r5 : 02f9ffa0 r4 : e3710000 r3 : 000fdffe r2 : c1e0ce80 r1 : ebf979a0 r0 : 00000000 Flags: nZCv IRQs on FIQs on Mode SVC_32 ISA ARM Segment user Control: 30c5383d Table: 235c2a80 DAC: fffffffd Process mkfs.ext4 (pid: 123, stack limit = 0x495a22e6) Stack: (0xe376bbe0 to 0xe376c000) As it turns out, zsram needs to know the maximum memory size, which is defined in MAX_PHYSMEM_BITS when CONFIG_SPARSEMEM is set, or in MAX_POSSIBLE_PHYSMEM_BITS on the x86 architecture. The same problem will be hit on all 32-bit architectures that have a physical address space larger than 4GB and happen to not enable sparsemem and include asm/sparsemem.h from asm/pgtable.h. After the initial discussion, I suggested just always defining MAX_POSSIBLE_PHYSMEM_BITS whenever CONFIG_PHYS_ADDR_T_64BIT is set, or provoking a build error otherwise. This addresses all configurations that can currently have this runtime bug, but leaves all other configurations unchanged. I looked up the possible number of bits in source code and datasheets, here is what I found: - on ARC, CONFIG_ARC_HAS_PAE40 controls whether 32 or 40 bits are used - on ARM, CONFIG_LPAE enables 40 bit addressing, without it we never support more than 32 bits, even though supersections in theory allow up to 40 bits as well. - on MIPS, some MIPS32r1 or later chips support 36 bits, and MIPS32r5 XPA supports up to 60 bits in theory, but 40 bits are more than anyone will ever ship - On PowerPC, there are three different implementations of 36 bit addressing, but 32-bit is used without CONFIG_PTE_64BIT - On RISC-V, the normal page table format can support 34 bit addressing. There is no highmem support on RISC-V, so anything above 2GB is unused, but it might be useful to eventually support CONFIG_ZRAM for high pages. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910816 commit 190113b upstream. Prarit reported that depending on the affinity setting the ' irq $N: Affinity broken due to vector space exhaustion.' message is showing up in dmesg, but the vector space on the CPUs in the affinity mask is definitely not exhausted. Shung-Hsi provided traces and analysis which pinpoints the problem: The ordering of trying to assign an interrupt vector in assign_irq_vector_any_locked() is simply wrong if the interrupt data has a valid node assigned. It does: 1) Try the intersection of affinity mask and node mask 2) Try the node mask 3) Try the full affinity mask 4) Try the full online mask Obviously #2 and #3 are in the wrong order as the requested affinity mask has to take precedence. In the observed cases #1 failed because the affinity mask did not contain CPUs from node 0. That made it allocate a vector from node 0, thereby breaking affinity and emitting the misleading message. Revert the order of #2 and #3 so the full affinity mask without the node intersection is tried before actually affinity is broken. If no node is assigned then only the full affinity mask and if that fails the full online mask is tried. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910816 commit e91d8d7 upstream. While I was doing zram testing, I found sometimes decompression failed since the compression buffer was corrupted. Even though this option showed some amount improvement(e.g., 30%) in some arm32 platforms, it has been headache to maintain since it have abused APIs[1](e.g., unmap_kernel_range in atomic context). Since we are approaching to deprecate 32bit machines and already made the config option available for only builtin build since v5.8, lastly it has been not default option in zsmalloc, it's time to drop the option for better maintenance. …or() BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910822 commit 73b62cd upstream. I observed this when unplugging a DP monitor whilst a computer is asleep and then waking it up. This left DP chardev nodes still being present on the filesystem and accessing these device nodes caused an oops because drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor() assumes a device exists if it is opened. This can also be reproduced by creating a device node with mknod(1) and issuing an open(2) [166164.933198] BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000018 [166164.933202] #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode [166164.933204] #PF: error_code(0x0000) - not-present page [166164.933205] PGD 0 P4D 0 [166164.933208] Oops: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP NOPTI [166164.933211] CPU: 4 PID: 99071 Comm: fwupd Tainted: G W 5.8.0-rc6+ #1 [166164.933213] Hardware name: LENOVO 20RD002VUS/20RD002VUS, BIOS R16ET25W (1.11 ) 04/21/2020 [166164.933232] RIP: 0010:drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+0x29/0x70 [drm_kms_helper] [166164.933234] Code: 00 0f 1f 44 00 00 55 48 89 e5 41 54 41 89 fc 48 c7 c7 60 01 a4 c0 e8 26 ab 30 d7 44 89 e6 48 c7 c7 80 01 a4 c0 e8 47 94 d6 d6 <8b> 50 18 49 89 c4 48 8d 78 18 85 d2 74 33 8d 4a 01 89 d0 f0 0f b1 [166164.933236] RSP: 0018:ffffb7d7c41cbbf0 EFLAGS: 00010246 [166164.933237] RAX: 0000000000000000 RBX: ffff8a90001fe900 RCX: 0000000000000000 [166164.933238] RDX: 0000000000000000 RSI: 0000000000000003 RDI: ffffffffc0a40180 [166164.933239] RBP: ffffb7d7c41cbbf8 R08: 0000000000000000 R09: ffff8a93e157d6d0 [166164.933240] R10: 0000000000000000 R11: ffffffffc0a40188 R12: 0000000000000003 [166164.933241] R13: ffff8a9402200e80 R14: ffff8a90001fe900 R15: 0000000000000000 [166164.933244] FS: 00007f7fb041eb00(0000) GS:ffff8a9411500000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 [166164.933245] CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 [166164.933246] CR2: 0000000000000018 CR3: 00000000352c2003 CR4: 00000000003606e0 [166164.933247] Call Trace: [166164.933264] auxdev_open+0x1b/0x40 [drm_kms_helper] [166164.933278] chrdev_open+0xa7/0x1c0 [166164.933282] ? cdev_put.part.0+0x20/0x20 [166164.933287] do_dentry_open+0x161/0x3c0 [166164.933291] vfs_open+0x2d/0x30 [166164.933297] path_openat+0xb27/0x10e0 [166164.933306] ? atime_needs_update+0x73/0xd0 [166164.933309] do_filp_open+0x91/0x100 [166164.933313] ? __alloc_fd+0xb2/0x150 [166164.933316] do_sys_openat2+0x210/0x2d0 [166164.933318] do_sys_open+0x46/0x80 [166164.933320] __x64_sys_openat+0x20/0x30 [166164.933328] do_syscall_64+0x52/0xc0 [166164.933336] entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44/0xa9 (gdb) disassemble drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+0x29 Dump of assembler code for function drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor: 0x0000000000017b10 <+0>: callq 0x17b15 <drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+5> 0x0000000000017b15 <+5>: push %rbp 0x0000000000017b16 <+6>: mov %rsp,%rbp 0x0000000000017b19 <+9>: push %r12 0x0000000000017b1b <+11>: mov %edi,%r12d 0x0000000000017b1e <+14>: mov $0x0,%rdi 0x0000000000017b25 <+21>: callq 0x17b2a <drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+26> 0x0000000000017b2a <+26>: mov %r12d,%esi 0x0000000000017b2d <+29>: mov $0x0,%rdi 0x0000000000017b34 <+36>: callq 0x17b39 <drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+41> 0x0000000000017b39 <+41>: mov 0x18(%rax),%edx <========= 0x0000000000017b3c <+44>: mov %rax,%r12 0x0000000000017b3f <+47>: lea 0x18(%rax),%rdi 0x0000000000017b43 <+51>: test %edx,%edx 0x0000000000017b45 <+53>: je 0x17b7a <drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+106> 0x0000000000017b47 <+55>: lea 0x1(%rdx),%ecx 0x0000000000017b4a <+58>: mov %edx,%eax 0x0000000000017b4c <+60>: lock cmpxchg %ecx,(%rdi) 0x0000000000017b50 <+64>: jne 0x17b76 <drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+102> 0x0000000000017b52 <+66>: test %edx,%edx 0x0000000000017b54 <+68>: js 0x17b6d <drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+93> 0x0000000000017b56 <+70>: test %ecx,%ecx 0x0000000000017b58 <+72>: js 0x17b6d <drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+93> 0x0000000000017b5a <+74>: mov $0x0,%rdi 0x0000000000017b61 <+81>: callq 0x17b66 <drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+86> 0x0000000000017b66 <+86>: mov %r12,%rax 0x0000000000017b69 <+89>: pop %r12 0x0000000000017b6b <+91>: pop %rbp 0x0000000000017b6c <+92>: retq 0x0000000000017b6d <+93>: xor %esi,%esi 0x0000000000017b6f <+95>: callq 0x17b74 <drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+100> 0x0000000000017b74 <+100>: jmp 0x17b5a <drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+74> 0x0000000000017b76 <+102>: mov %eax,%edx 0x0000000000017b78 <+104>: jmp 0x17b43 <drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+51> 0x0000000000017b7a <+106>: xor %r12d,%r12d 0x0000000000017b7d <+109>: jmp 0x17b5a <drm_dp_aux_dev_get_by_minor+74> End of assembler dump. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2072617 [ Upstream commit ffbf4fb9b5c12ff878a10ea17997147ea4ebea6f ] When CONFIG_DEBUG_BUGVERBOSE=n, we fail to add necessary padding bytes to bug_table entries, and as a result the last entry in a bug table will be ignored, potentially leading to an unexpected panic(). All prior entries in the table will be handled correctly. The arm64 ABI requires that struct fields of up to 8 bytes are naturally-aligned, with padding added within a struct such that struct are suitably aligned within arrays. When CONFIG_DEBUG_BUGVERPOSE=y, the layout of a bug_entry is: struct bug_entry { signed int bug_addr_disp; // 4 bytes signed int file_disp; // 4 bytes unsigned short line; // 2 bytes unsigned short flags; // 2 bytes } ... with 12 bytes total, requiring 4-byte alignment. When CONFIG_DEBUG_BUGVERBOSE=n, the layout of a bug_entry is: struct bug_entry { signed int bug_addr_disp; // 4 bytes unsigned short flags; // 2 bytes < implicit padding > // 2 bytes } ... with 8 bytes total, with 6 bytes of data and 2 bytes of trailing padding, requiring 4-byte alginment. When we create a bug_entry in assembly, we align the start of the entry to 4 bytes, which implicitly handles padding for any prior entries. However, we do not align the end of the entry, and so when CONFIG_DEBUG_BUGVERBOSE=n, the final entry lacks the trailing padding bytes. For the main kernel image this is not a problem as find_bug() doesn't depend on the trailing padding bytes when searching for entries: for (bug = __start___bug_table; bug < __stop___bug_table; ++bug) if (bugaddr == bug_addr(bug)) return bug; However for modules, module_bug_finalize() depends on the trailing bytes when calculating the number of entries: mod->num_bugs = sechdrs[i].sh_size / sizeof(struct bug_entry); ... and as the last bug_entry lacks the necessary padding bytes, this entry will not be counted, e.g. in the case of a single entry: sechdrs[i].sh_size == 6 sizeof(struct bug_entry) == 8; sechdrs[i].sh_size / sizeof(struct bug_entry) == 0; Consequently module_find_bug() will miss the last bug_entry when it does: for (i = 0; i < mod->num_bugs; ++i, ++bug) if (bugaddr == bug_addr(bug)) goto out; ... which can lead to a kenrel panic due to an unhandled bug. This can be demonstrated with the following module: static int __init buginit(void) { WARN(1, "hello\n"); return 0; } static void __exit bugexit(void) { } module_init(buginit); module_exit(bugexit); MODULE_LICENSE("GPL"); ... which will trigger a kernel panic when loaded: ------------[ cut here ]------------ hello Unexpected kernel BRK exception at EL1 Internal error: BRK handler: 00000000f2000800 [#1] PREEMPT SMP Modules linked in: hello(O+) CPU: 0 PID: 50 Comm: insmod Tainted: G O 6.9.1 #8 Hardware name: linux,dummy-virt (DT) pstate: 60400005 (nZCv daif +PAN -UAO -TCO -DIT -SSBS BTYPE=--) pc : buginit+0x18/0x1000 [hello] lr : buginit+0x18/0x1000 [hello] sp : ffff800080533ae0 x29: ffff800080533ae0 x28: 0000000000000000 x27: 0000000000000000 x26: ffffaba8c4e70510 x25: ffff800080533c30 x24: ffffaba8c4a28a58 x23: 0000000000000000 x22: 0000000000000000 x21: ffff3947c0eab3c0 x20: ffffaba8c4e3f000 x19: ffffaba846464000 x18: 0000000000000006 x17: 0000000000000000 x16: ffffaba8c2492834 x15: 0720072007200720 x14: 0720072007200720 x13: ffffaba8c49b27c8 x12: 0000000000000312 x11: 0000000000000106 x10: ffffaba8c4a0a7c8 x9 : ffffaba8c49b27c8 x8 : 00000000ffffefff x7 : ffffaba8c4a0a7c8 x6 : 80000000fffff000 x5 : 0000000000000107 x4 : 0000000000000000 x3 : 0000000000000000 x2 : 0000000000000000 x1 : 0000000000000000 x0 : ffff3947c0eab3c0 Call trace: buginit+0x18/0x1000 [hello] do_one_initcall+0x80/0x1c8 do_init_module+0x60/0x218 load_module+0x1ba4/0x1d70 __do_sys_init_module+0x198/0x1d0 __arm64_sys_init_module+0x1c/0x28 invoke_syscall+0x48/0x114 el0_svc_common.constprop.0+0x40/0xe0 do_el0_svc+0x1c/0x28 el0_svc+0x34/0xd8 el0t_64_sync_handler+0x120/0x12c el0t_64_sync+0x190/0x194 Code: d0ffffe0 910003fd 91000000 9400000b (d4210000) ---[ end trace 0000000000000000 ]--- Kernel panic - not syncing: BRK handler: Fatal exception Fix this by always aligning the end of a bug_entry to 4 bytes, which is correct regardless of CONFIG_DEBUG_BUGVERBOSE. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2072617 commit 5abffb66d12bcac84bf7b66389c571b8bb6e82bd upstream. In drm_kms_helper_poll_disable() check if output polling support is initialized before disabling polling. If not flag this as a warning. Additionally in drm_mode_config_helper_suspend() and drm_mode_config_helper_resume() calls, that re the callers of these functions, avoid invoking them if polling is not initialized. For drivers like hyperv-drm, that do not initialize connector polling, if suspend is called without this check, it leads to suspend failure with following stack [ 770.719392] Freezing remaining freezable tasks ... BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2073765 [ Upstream commit 3f858bbf04dbac934ac279aaee05d49eb9910051 ] There is an issue with ACPI overlay table removal specifically related to I2C multiplexers. Consider an ACPI SSDT Overlay that defines a PCA9548 I2C mux on an existing I2C bus. When this table is loaded we see the creation of a device for the overall PCA9548 chip and 8 further devices - one i2c_adapter each for the mux channels. These are all bound to their ACPI equivalents via an eventual invocation of acpi_bind_one(). When we unload the SSDT overlay we run into the problem. The ACPI devices are deleted as normal via acpi_device_del_work_fn() and the acpi_device_del_list. However, the following warning and stack trace is output as the deletion does not go smoothly: ------------[ cut here ]------------ kernfs: can not remove 'physical_node', no directory WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 11 at fs/kernfs/dir.c:1674 kernfs_remove_by_name_ns+0xb9/0xc0 Modules linked in: CPU: 1 PID: 11 Comm: kworker/u128:0 Not tainted 6.8.0-rc6+ #1 Hardware name: congatec AG conga-B7E3/conga-B7E3, BIOS 5.13 05/16/2023 Workqueue: kacpi_hotplug acpi_device_del_work_fn RIP: 0010:kernfs_remove_by_name_ns+0xb9/0xc0 Code: e4 00 48 89 ef e8 07 71 db ff 5b b8 fe ff ff ff 5d 41 5c 41 5d e9 a7 55 e4 00 0f 0b eb a6 48 c7 c7 f0 38 0d 9d e8 97 0a d5 ff <0f> 0b eb dc 0f 1f 00 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 RSP: 0018:ffff9f864008fb28 EFLAGS: 00010286 RAX: 0000000000000000 RBX: ffff8ef90a8d4940 RCX: 0000000000000000 RDX: ffff8f000e267d10 RSI: ffff8f000e25c780 RDI: ffff8f000e25c780 RBP: ffff8ef9186f9870 R08: 0000000000013ffb R09: 00000000ffffbfff R10: 00000000ffffbfff R11: ffff8f000e0a0000 R12: ffff9f864008fb50 R13: ffff8ef90c93dd60 R14: ffff8ef9010d0958 R15: ffff8ef9186f98c8 FS: 0000000000000000(0000) GS:ffff8f000e240000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 CR2: 00007f48f5253a08 CR3: 00000003cb82e000 CR4: 00000000003506f0 Call Trace: <TASK> ? kernfs_remove_by_name_ns+0xb9/0xc0 ? __warn+0x7c/0x130 ? kernfs_remove_by_name_ns+0xb9/0xc0 ? report_bug+0x171/0x1a0 ? handle_bug+0x3c/0x70 ? exc_invalid_op+0x17/0x70 ? asm_exc_invalid_op+0x1a/0x20 ? kernfs_remove_by_name_ns+0xb9/0xc0 ? kernfs_remove_by_name_ns+0xb9/0xc0 acpi_unbind_one+0x108/0x180 device_del+0x18b/0x490 ? srso_return_thunk+0x5/0x5f ? srso_return_thunk+0x5/0x5f device_unregister+0xd/0x30 i2c_del_adapter.part.0+0x1bf/0x250 i2c_mux_del_adapters+0xa1/0xe0 i2c_device_remove+0x1e/0x80 device_release_driver_internal+0x19a/0x200 bus_remove_device+0xbf/0x100 device_del+0x157/0x490 ? __pfx_device_match_fwnode+0x10/0x10 ? srso_return_thunk+0x5/0x5f device_unregister+0xd/0x30 i2c_acpi_notify+0x10f/0x140 notifier_call_chain+0x58/0xd0 blocking_notifier_call_chain+0x3a/0x60 acpi_device_del_work_fn+0x85/0x1d0 process_one_work+0x134/0x2f0 worker_thread+0x2f0/0x410 ? __pfx_worker_thread+0x10/0x10 kthread+0xe3/0x110 ? __pfx_kthread+0x10/0x10 ret_from_fork+0x2f/0x50 ? __pfx_kthread+0x10/0x10 ret_from_fork_asm+0x1b/0x30 </TASK> ---[ end trace 0000000000000000 ]--- ... repeated 7 more times, 1 for each channel of the mux ... The issue is that the binding of the ACPI devices to their peer I2C adapters is not correctly cleaned up. Digging deeper into the issue we see that the deletion order is such that the ACPI devices matching the mux channel i2c adapters are deleted first during the SSDT overlay removal. For each of the channels we see a call to i2c_acpi_notify() with ACPI_RECONFIG_DEVICE_REMOVE but, because these devices are not actually i2c_clients, nothing is done for them. Later on, after each of the mux channels has been dealt with, we come to delete the i2c_client representing the PCA9548 device. This is the call stack we see above, whereby the kernel cleans up the i2c_client including destruction of the mux and its channel adapters. At this point we do attempt to unbind from the ACPI peers but those peers no longer exist and so we hit the kernfs errors. The fix is to augment i2c_acpi_notify() to handle i2c_adapters. But, given that the life cycle of the adapters is linked to the i2c_client, instead of deleting the i2c_adapters during the i2c_acpi_notify(), we just trigger unbinding of the ACPI device from the adapter device, and allow the clean up of the adapter to continue in the way it always has. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2073765 [ Upstream commit e16faf2 ] Patch series "mm: enforce pageblock_order < MAX_ORDER". Having pageblock_order >= MAX_ORDER seems to be able to happen in corner cases and some parts of the kernel are not prepared for it. For example, Aneesh has shown [1] that such kernels can be compiled on ppc64 with 64k base pages by setting FORCE_MAX_ZONEORDER=8, which will run into a WARN_ON_ONCE(order >= MAX_ORDER) in comapction code right during boot. We can get pageblock_order >= MAX_ORDER when the default hugetlb size is bigger than the maximum allocation granularity of the buddy, in which case we are no longer talking about huge pages but instead gigantic pages. Having pageblock_order >= MAX_ORDER can only make alloc_contig_range() of such gigantic pages more likely to succeed. Reliable use of gigantic pages either requires boot time allcoation or CMA, no need to overcomplicate some places in the kernel to optimize for corner cases that are broken in other areas of the kernel. This patch (of 2): Let's enforce pageblock_order < MAX_ORDER and simplify. Especially patch #1 can be regarded a cleanup before: [PATCH v5 0/6] Use pageblock_order for cma and alloc_contig_range alignment. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2073765 [ Upstream commit 79f18a41dd056115d685f3b0a419c7cd40055e13 ] When queues are started, netif_napi_add() and napi_enable() are called. If there are 4 queues and only 3 queues are used for the current configuration, only 3 queues' napi should be registered and enabled. The ionic_qcq_enable() checks whether the .poll pointer is not NULL for enabling only the using queue' napi. Unused queues' napi will not be registered by netif_napi_add(), so the .poll pointer indicates NULL. But it couldn't distinguish whether the napi was unregistered or not because netif_napi_del() doesn't reset the .poll pointer to NULL. So, ionic_qcq_enable() calls napi_enable() for the queue, which was unregistered by netif_napi_del(). BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2073765 commit c0a40097f0bc81deafc15f9195d1fb54595cd6d0 upstream. Synchronize the dev->driver usage in really_probe() and dev_uevent(). These can run in different threads, what can result in the following race condition for dev->driver uninitialization: Thread #1: ========== really_probe() { ... probe_failed: ... device_unbind_cleanup(dev) { ... dev->driver = NULL; // <= Failed probe sets dev->driver to NULL ... } ... } Thread #2: ========== dev_uevent() { ... if (dev->driver) // If dev->driver is NULLed from really_probe() from here on, // after above check, the system crashes add_uevent_var(env, "DRIVER=%s", dev->driver->name); ... } really_probe() holds the lock, already. So nothing needs to be done there. dev_uevent() is called with lock held, often, too. But not always. What implies that we can't add any locking in dev_uevent() itself. So fix this race by adding the lock to the non-protected path. This is the path where above race is observed: dev_uevent+0x235/0x380 uevent_show+0x10c/0x1f0 <= Add lock here dev_attr_show+0x3a/0xa0 sysfs_kf_seq_show+0x17c/0x250 kernfs_seq_show+0x7c/0x90 seq_read_iter+0x2d7/0x940 kernfs_fop_read_iter+0xc6/0x310 vfs_read+0x5bc/0x6b0 ksys_read+0xeb/0x1b0 __x64_sys_read+0x42/0x50 x64_sys_call+0x27ad/0x2d30 do_syscall_64+0xcd/0x1d0 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x77/0x7f Similar cases are reported by syzkaller in https://syzkaller.appspot.com/bug?extid=ffa8143439596313a85a But these are regarding the *initialization* of dev->driver dev->driver = drv; As this switches dev->driver to non-NULL these reports can be considered to be false-positives (which should be "fixed" by this commit, as well, though). The same issue was reported and tried to be fixed back in 2015 in https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/[email protected]/ already. To fix this issue, use a small local stack buffer for sprintf() and then call simple_read_from_buffer(), which in turns make the copy_to_user() call. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2073765 commit be346c1a6eeb49d8fda827d2a9522124c2f72f36 upstream. The code in ocfs2_dio_end_io_write() estimates number of necessary transaction credits using ocfs2_calc_extend_credits(). This however does not take into account that the IO could be arbitrarily large and can contain arbitrary number of extents. Extent tree manipulations do often extend the current transaction but not in all of the cases. For example if we have only single block extents in the tree, ocfs2_mark_extent_written() will end up calling ocfs2_replace_extent_rec() all the time and we will never extend the current transaction and eventually exhaust all the transaction credits if the IO contains many single block extents. Once that happens a WARN_ON(jbd2_handle_buffer_credits(handle) <= 0) is triggered in jbd2_journal_dirty_metadata() and subsequently OCFS2 aborts in response to this error. This was actually triggered by one of our customers on a heavily fragmented OCFS2 filesystem. To fix the issue make sure the transaction always has enough credits for one extent insert before each call of ocfs2_mark_extent_written(). In the past, there were similar failures reported by CI from other IGT tests, observed on other platforms. Before commit 63baf4f ("drm/i915/gt: Only wait for GPU activity before unbinding a GGTT fence"), i915_vma_revoke_fence() was waiting for idleness of vma->active via fence_update(). That commit introduced vma->fence->active in order for the fence_update() to be able to wait selectively on that one instead of vma->active since only idleness of fence registers was needed. But then, another commit 0d86ee3 ("drm/i915/gt: Make fence revocation unequivocal") replaced the call to fence_update() in i915_vma_revoke_fence() with only fence_write(), and also added that GEM_BUG_ON(!i915_active_is_idle(&fence->active)) in front. No justification was provided on why we might then expect idleness of vma->fence->active without first waiting on it. The issue can be potentially caused by a race among revocation of fence registers on one side and sequential execution of signal callbacks invoked on completion of a request that was using them on the other, still processed in parallel to revocation of those fence registers. Fix it by waiting for idleness of vma->fence->active in i915_vma_revoke_fence(). BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2073765 commit bab4923132feb3e439ae45962979c5d9d5c7c1f1 upstream. In the TRACE_EVENT(qdisc_reset) NULL dereference occurred from qdisc->dev_queue->dev <NULL> ->name This situation simulated from bunch of veths and Bluetooth disconnection and reconnection. During qdisc initialization, qdisc was being set to noop_queue. In veth_init_queue, the initial tx_num was reduced back to one, causing the qdisc reset to be called with noop, which led to the kernel panic. I've attached the GitHub gist link that C converted syz-execprogram source code and 3 log of reproduced vmcore-dmesg. https://gist.github.com/yskelg/cc64562873ce249cdd0d5a358b77d740 Yeoreum and I use two fuzzing tool simultaneously. One process with syz-executor : https://github.com/google/syzkaller $ ./syz-execprog -executor=./syz-executor -repeat=1 -sandbox=setuid \ -enable=none -collide=false log1 The other process with perf fuzzer: https://github.com/deater/perf_event_tests/tree/master/fuzzer $ perf_event_tests/fuzzer/perf_fuzzer I think this will happen on the kernel version. Linux kernel version +v6.7.10, +v6.8, +v6.9 and it could happen in v6.10. This occurred from 51270d5. I think this patch is absolutely necessary. Previously, It was showing not intended string value of name. I've reproduced 3 time from my fedora 40 Debug Kernel with any other module or patched. version: 6.10.0-0.rc2.20240608gitdc772f8237f9.29.fc41.aarch64+debug [ 5287.164555] veth0_vlan: left promiscuous mode [ 5287.164929] veth1_macvtap: left promiscuous mode [ 5287.164950] veth0_macvtap: left promiscuous mode [ 5287.164983] veth1_vlan: left promiscuous mode [ 5287.165008] veth0_vlan: left promiscuous mode [ 5287.165450] veth1_macvtap: left promiscuous mode [ 5287.165472] veth0_macvtap: left promiscuous mode [ 5287.165502] veth1_vlan: left promiscuous mode … [ 5297.598240] bridge0: port 2(bridge_slave_1) entered blocking state [ 5297.598262] bridge0: port 2(bridge_slave_1) entered forwarding state [ 5297.598296] bridge0: port 1(bridge_slave_0) entered blocking state [ 5297.598313] bridge0: port 1(bridge_slave_0) entered forwarding state [ 5297.616090] 8021q: adding VLAN 0 to HW filter on device bond0 [ 5297.620405] bridge0: port 1(bridge_slave_0) entered disabled state [ 5297.620730] bridge0: port 2(bridge_slave_1) entered disabled state [ 5297.627247] 8021q: adding VLAN 0 to HW filter on device team0 [ 5297.629636] bridge0: port 1(bridge_slave_0) entered blocking state … [ 5298.002798] bridge_slave_0: left promiscuous mode [ 5298.002869] bridge0: port 1(bridge_slave_0) entered disabled state [ 5298.309444] bond0 (unregistering): (slave bond_slave_0): Releasing backup interface [ 5298.315206] bond0 (unregistering): (slave bond_slave_1): Releasing backup interface [ 5298.320207] bond0 (unregistering): Released all slaves [ 5298.354296] hsr_slave_0: left promiscuous mode [ 5298.360750] hsr_slave_1: left promiscuous mode [ 5298.374889] veth1_macvtap: left promiscuous mode [ 5298.374931] veth0_macvtap: left promiscuous mode [ 5298.374988] veth1_vlan: left promiscuous mode [ 5298.375024] veth0_vlan: left promiscuous mode [ 5299.109741] team0 (unregistering): Port device team_slave_1 removed [ 5299.185870] team0 (unregistering): Port device team_slave_0 removed … [ 5300.155443] Bluetooth: hci3: unexpected cc 0x0c03 length: 249 > 1 [ 5300.155724] Bluetooth: hci3: unexpected cc 0x1003 length: 249 > 9 [ 5300.155988] Bluetooth: hci3: unexpected cc 0x1001 length: 249 > 9 …. It was found that all variables in the jffs_inode_info structure were 5a5a5a5a, except for the first member sem. It is suspected that these variables are not initialized because they were set to 5a5a5a5a during memory testing, which is meant to detect uninitialized memory. The sem variable is initialized in the function jffs2_i_init_once, while other members are initialized in the function jffs2_init_inode_info. The function jffs2_init_inode_info is called after iget_locked, but in the iget_locked function, the destroy_inode process is triggered, which releases the inode and consequently, the target member of the inode is not initialized. In concurrent high pressure scenarios, iget_locked may enter the destroy_inode branch as described in the code. Since the destroy_inode functionality of jffs2 only releases the target, the fix method is to set target to NULL in jffs2_i_init_once. Since the block group is removed from the reclaim list and it is on a relocation work, it can be added into the unused list in parallel. When that happens, adding it to the reclaim list will corrupt the list head and trigger list corruption like below. Fix it by taking fs_info->unused_bgs_lock. [177.504][T2585409] BTRFS error (device nullb1): error relocating ch= unk 2415919104 [177.514][T2585409] list_del corruption. next->prev should be ff1100= 0344b119c0, but was ff11000377e87c70. Since the block group was in the unused list, the used bytes should be 0 when it was added to the unused list. Then, it checks block_group->{used,reserved,pinned} are still 0 under the block_group->lock. So, they should be still eligible for the unused list, not the reclaim list. The reason it is safe there it's because because we're holding space_info->groups_sem in write mode. That means no other task can allocate from the block group, so while we are at deleted_unused_bgs() it's not possible for other tasks to allocate and deallocate extents from the block group, so it can't be added to the unused list or the reclaim list by anyone else. The bug can be reproduced by btrfs/166 after a few rounds. In practice this can be hit when relocation cannot find more chunk space and ends with ENOSPC. This implies a possible sleep and violates limitations of RCU read-side critical sections on non-PREEMPT systems. Sleeping within RCU read-side critical section might cause synchronize_rcu() returning early and break RCU protection, allowing a UAF to happen. The root cause of this issue could be described as follows: | Thread A | Thread B | | |ima_match_policy | | | rcu_read_lock | |ima_lsm_update_rule | | | synchronize_rcu | | | | kmalloc(GFP_KERNEL)| | | sleep | ==> synchronize_rcu returns early | kfree(entry) | | | | entry = entry->next| ==> UAF happens and entry now becomes NULL (or could be anything). | | entry->action | ==> Accessing entry might cause panic. To fix this issue, we are converting all kmalloc that is called within RCU read-side critical section to use GFP_ATOMIC. This crash is because a NULL pointer is passed to page_address() in the sk_msg_recvmsg(). Due to the different implementations depending on the architecture, page_address(NULL) will trigger a panic on Loongarch platform but not on x86 platform. So this bug was hidden on x86 platform for a while, but now it is exposed on Loongarch platform. The root cause is that a zero length skb (skb->len == 0) was put on the queue. This zero length skb is a TCP FIN packet, which was sent by shutdown(), invoked in test_sockmap_skb_verdict_shutdown(): shutdown(p1, SHUT_WR); In this case, in sk_psock_skb_ingress_enqueue(), num_sge is zero, and no page is put to this sge (see sg_set_page in sg_set_page), but this empty sge is queued into ingress_msg list. And in sk_msg_recvmsg(), this empty sge is used, and a NULL page is got by sg_page(sge). Pass this NULL page to copy_page_to_iter(), which passes it to kmap_local_page() and to page_address(), then kernel panics. To solve this, we should skip this zero length skb. So in sk_msg_recvmsg(), if copy is zero, that means it's a zero length skb, skip invoking copy_page_to_iter(). We are using the EFAULT return triggered by copy_page_to_iter to check for is_fin in tcp_bpf.c.
