why i get Failed to set locale with rofi

i'm new to linux in general but i'm doing well with it so
after i install rofi from nix-packags and try to do anything with it like opening chrome for example
i got this message :
(process:21426): Rofi-WARNING **: 21:01:23.362: Failed to set locale.
after searching about that i figure out it's realated to language of my system that is there

i've checked /etc/locale.gen file and uncommete ar_SA.UTF-8 UTF-8 line

now these 2 line uncommeted

ar_SA.UTF-8 UTF-8
en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8

regenerate locales after editing /etc/locale.gen
command : sudo locale-gen

i've tried

command : grep -v ^# /etc/locale.gen
output

 ar_SA.UTF-8 UTF-8
en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8

and that's what should i get just these two

command : localectl

System Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8
    VC Keymap: (unset)         
   X11 Layout: us
    X11 Model: pc105

and still get same error

Rofi does very little with this, except passing it to the underlying 'setlocale' method.

following:

       On startup of the main program, the portable "C" locale is selected as default.  A program may be made portable to all locales by calling:

           setlocale(LC_ALL, "");

can you paste the output of env? (LANG* and LC_ entries).

but now localectl command produce system locale isn't set can that affect anything ?

You do not want to set locale to C globally, it was more a test.

I don't know what is going wrong, but this is not a rofi bug (to the best of my knowledge) but an issue with the underlying system.

rofi calls 'setlocale' and that fails, this is a pretty low level function. I am amazed not more programs fail/complain about this.

i'm sorry for ur time i believe it's my system but maybe that happen cause of nix installed ? i will delete it and rebuild it my self and i will tell y about that thanx for ur time

I have no idea about nix, but nix setups have caused issues in the past.
Maybe there is a nix user around that can help with this.

I just ran into the same issue, and I'm pretty sure it was caused by nix (just the package manager on Ubuntu). After removing nix, it immediately worked again, no restart required. All locale settings looked fine before and after uninstalling, so I'm not exactly sure what caused the issue.
