CSS Letter spacing is off with mixed fonts

In my case users from around the world can contribute to a PDF that is generated from the input. I have mixed different fonts to support glyphs from around the world.

            font-family: 'Hind', 'Meiryo', sans-serif;
            font-weight: normal;
            letter-spacing: 0.5pt

And try to render the multinational text:

<span>Hindi नमस्त Hiragana ひらがな Katakana カタカナ</span>
