Setting up a LaTex Development Environment

This repository is also a Vagrant VM. To use it first install the latest version of:

• VirtualBox
  • https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
• Vagrant
  • https://www.vagrantup.com/downloads.html

# Git will need to be installed on the host OS. On the host in a development
# area pull the Dissertation from github.
git clone [email protected]:csherrell/Dissertation.git
cd Dissertation
# Start the Virtual Machine. This will run for a little while.  It will need
# to pull the box down as well as all LaTex packages.
vagrant up
# Log into the virtual machine
vagrant ssh
# The /vagrant folder will be the Dissertation folder from the host.
cd /vagrant
# Compile the Dissertation. Creates Dissertation.pdf.
pdflatex Dissertation && bibtex Dissertation && pdflatex Dissertation && pdflatex Dissertation
# After editing, clean up the log files.
./make_clean.sh
# Exit the Virtual Machine
exit

Compiling a LaTeX Document

Run the following four commands

pdflatex Dissertation
bibtex Dissertation
pdflatex Dissertation
pdflatex Dissertation

One liner version

pdflatex Dissertation && bibtex Dissertation && pdflatex Dissertation && pdflatex Dissertation

do_after_changes.sh

This is a handy little script written by Eric Zhiqiang Ma that watches a directory for changes and when file changes it run a command.

./do-after-change.sh "pdflatex Dissertation && bibtex Dissertation && pdflatex Dissertation && pdflatex Dissertation" *.tex *.sty

make_clean.sh

This will delete all the extra LaTeX output files. These files are added to the .gitignore file as well.

  • Title on title page should be double spaced
• Signature Page
  • Committee members should be right justified on signature page
  • Include a prefix for each committee member on signature page
  • "College of Engineering" should be "Department of Engineering"

  • "Appendices" page is missing page number - Page 28
