Help needed to debug Error: creating container storage: creating an ID-mapped copy of layer

When I try to mount a host folder in the container as follows:

podman run --rm -it --userns=keep-id --security-opt=label=disable -v /home/user/folder:/home/ubuntu/folder -w /home/ubuntu/folder docker.io/library/ubuntu:24.04

I get an error:
Error: creating container storage: creating an ID-mapped copy of layer "a46a5fb872b554648d9d0262f302b2c1ded46eeb1ef4dc727ecc5274605937af": error during chown: storage-chown-by-maps: lchown boot: read-only file system: exit status 1

If I remove --userns=keep-id, I am able to enter the container but the mounted host folder belongs to root inside the container. I have to use sudo to make any modifications to the mounted host folder in the container. I want to avoid this.

The modification that I have made is that I have used custom locations for graphroot, imagestore, rootless_storage_path, and runroot using storage.conf file. I don't know if this is relevant.

Can someone help me fix the error?

Setting mount_program=/usr/bin/fuse-overlayfs in my modified storage.conf file has resolved the issue.
