Stage music for Project Slippi

Bkacjios edited this page Dec 25, 2022 · 13 revisions

When playing Super Smash Bros. Melee online with Project Slippi, you will find that music has been disabled. This program, despite being a controller input viewer, has a feature specifically designed to bring back music for Super Smash Bros. Melee and customize it however you want.

Since the program is reading directly from the games memory, it is able to see what stage you are currently playing on and play music accordingly.

  1. Download the latest release (patch notes)

  2. Launch M'Overlay and press the escape key on your keyboard to open up the settings menu.

Initial settings

If you would like to use this while NOT using slippi netplay, please skip to step 4.

  1. Go to the Slippi tab, and change Slippi mode from Off: Other games to Melee: Rollback mode.

Slippi settings

NOTE: This setting will BREAK automatic game detection by forcing M'Overlay into Melee mode. If you would like to use the input display for another game at any point, please turn this setting back to Off: Other games.

  1. Go to the Melee tab and check Enable music

Melee Settings

  1. On the bottom left of the General tab, click Open config directory to open the location on your computer where M'Overlay saves its config file. This directory also contains the Melee folder, which is where you will store your music.

  2. Open the Melee folder. You will see a set of folder names like Menu Music Series Music and Stage Music

    • Any songs placed in Menu Music will play on the menus, such as the CSS and SSS.
    • Inside the Stage Music folder is a set of folders for each stage in melee. Place any music you want to play on a specific stage in the corresponding folder.
    • Inside the Series Music folder is a set of folders for each represented game series that has a stage.
      • For example, any music you put in Melee/Series Music/Pokémon will be played on both Pokémon Stadium and Poké Floats
  3. Place any .mp3 .ogg .wav or .flac files in the corresponding folders for when you want that song to play.

  4. Open Dolphin and launch Melee while keeping M'Overlay running in the background and enjoy your music!
