Issue
Version not stored centrally, different files with different versions. We can start tagging the releases with semantic versioning moving on: https://semver.org/

Proposed solution
New version file _version.py:

__version_info__ = ('X', 'Y', 'Z')
__version__ = '.'.join(__version_info__)
