script/count [ORG_NAME | USER_NAME]
Don't want to set up a local development environment? You can run this script via GitHub Actions:
- Fork this repository into your account
- Navigate to the "Actions" tab of your fork
- Click the "run" workflow on the left side
- Click "Run workflow" on the right side
- Enter your org. or user name that you'd like to count lines of code for
- Click "Run Workflow"
You'll see the progress and count(s) in the job output (also available from the Actions tab).
Note: If you'd like to count private repositories, as described below, you'll need to set an ORG_GITHUB_TOKEN
GitHub Actions secret with your PAT.
It uses Octokit.rb to fetch a list of your organization's (or user's) repositories (public or public and private), clone each, and Cloc to count the lines of code, number of files, comments, etc.

To look at private repositories, you'll need to pass a personal access token with repo
scope as GITHUB_TOKEN
. You can do this by adding GITHUB_TOKEN=[TOKEN]
to a .env
file in the repository's root.
If you are working with GitHub Enterprise and want to change your URL, simply add GITHUB_ENTERPRISE_URL=https://<ghe-url>/api/v3
to the .env
file
Sample .env
File :
GITHUB_TOKEN="<token>"
GITHUB_ENTERPRISE_URL="https://my-ghe.local/api/v3"
