After Riak 2.0 goes out the door Yokozuna will be locked to a specific Solr version. What will the upgrade path look like in the future when the Solr version is changed?

  • How do users typically upgrade single-node Solr clusters?
  • Are there any official documents or policies for Solr upgrades in the Apache documentation.
  • Will Solr distributed search work when spanning a group of shards consisting of two different Solr versions?
  • If solrconfig.xml changes are required how do we deal with that?
  • What about solr.xml?
  • What about the schema?
  • What about newer versions requiring upgrade to JVM?
  • Etc.

Any thoughts on this issue? There's a couple of interesting features in the newer releases of SOLR that be'd nice to track.

@Boardom we've definitely discussed it and want to put some work into it, especially with SOLR 5's recent release. We're in the midst of getting some other fixes/updates out first however.

@Boardom, just wanted to check-in, but for discussions going on, which features would you like to take advantage of specifically?
