Autoware Reference Design Working Group
The Reference Design WG is responsible to drive AWF toward a reference Electric and Electronic Architecture for autonomous mobility platforms. The WG can come up with a reference platform that is best suited to run Autoware Core or extended to run Autoware Universe.
- Daniel Chi-Sheng SHIH (National Taiwan University)
- Stephen Li (AutoCore)
The scope of this WG covers the architecture, OS/RTOS, and middleware to address requirements for Auto and Safety.
This WG will collaborate with other WGs to enable Software-Defined Vehicles. In particular, the WG will collaborate with Open AD Kit WG and API WG much more closely.
The reference AD WG can get off the ground quicker by setting minimal viable outputs.
- With the help of participants who had a good experience with automotive hardware, arrive at an E/E Architecture that can support Autoware Core on an existing target demo vehicle.
- Examine the approaches of domain controller architecture and zonal architecture, and propose how or if Autoware should be configured to handle both architecture trends.
- Autoware developers
- Leading sensor suppliers who had experience on a physical vehicle and datasets collected for their sensors that can be shared for simulation testing or training
- SoC/ECU suppliers
- Initial draft of demo E/E Architecture by June 2023
- The reference platform is an abstraction of the EEA, and with a demonstration Autoware running on a physical demo vehicle by December 2023
The reference AD WG will coordinate with other WGs

The Sensing & Perception working group meets weekly at 10:00 Am UTC (subject to change) every Wednesday. For meeting information, see the the Autoware Foundation's events calendar for when the upcoming meetings will be held. If you use Google Calendar, you can subscribe to this calendar directly to have it displayed alongside your own calendar events. To do this, click the "+ Google Calendar" link in the bottom right corner of that site. Note that this will not add the events to your own calendar, meaning you may not receive notifications about meetings starting soon. For those not using Google Calendar, you can add the calendar to your own by downloading it as an ICS file and importing that into your calendar software.
The meetings and other announcements will be made every week at Autoware Discord. To join Autoware Discord server please use the link: https://autoware.herokuapp.com/
