The issue is fixed. The specfem2D has the same issue, you may want to
update it, too

I am trying to install SPECFEM3D on my new MacBook with an M2 chip. However, when I did the configure with "./configure FC=gfortran CC=gcc MPIFC=mpif90 --with-mpi", it failed and returned "checking build system type... Invalid configuration
arm64-apple-darwin20.0.0': machine
