As noted in PR #240, for performance and stability gains it makes sense to move to the now available 1.3.0 version.

Change proposed in this Pull Request

Change the environment rasterio version to be >1.2.10

One could also write rasterio!=1.2.10 which really avoids the problematic version while allowing versions below 1.3.0
