Examples and Starter Kits

Overview

Want to start capturing a conversation around creating some starter kit and example repos for Greenwood, as well as an easy mechanism for creating / sharing them.

Goals

Would like three things to come out of this:

1. Starters - repo templates for a Blog, Portfolio Site, SPA, and other common website archetypes
2. Examples - repos using popular and useful technologies like for Tailwind, Lion / Material Web Components, and the USWDS
3. Installer - A quick and easy way to share / install them, like using something like degit maybe?

For anyone curious, got a pretty cool stack coming along over here. Will probably try and make a standalone repo for it.

Got an example of Tailwind working in the Getting Started repo! 👀

Kicked off an example with Material Web Components, but hit a couple snags along the way. ⚠️

Found some additional Greenwood needed (potentially) to support MWC ( #700 ) unless the project adopts the spec before then, ideally - material-components/material-web#2632.

Will circle back in Project 7 to see how this is going and make a call then.

Adding Clarity Design System as I saw an example of their system during a talk at Reliable Web Summit and they look to making some very technically modern components (sideEffects, ESM, no bundling / import map, WC registration, etc) .

Adding Pollen as an interesting one to keep an eye on as well.

So I forgot that USWDS relies on SASS, so will need to create a plugin for that, which I have a (non working) prototype over in AnalogStudiosRI/www.analogstudios.net#15.

For now, I have opened a discussion with the USWDS team to explore the option of moving away from SASS, so will see who can cross the finish line first. 😄

On the monthly USWDS call and it looks like there will be a componentized version of the USWDS in 1/2022 as a beta, along with dropping IE11 and adopting new Sass modules. Will keep an eye out on this. 👀 👍

Will be curious to see the considerations / implications of this on SSR and UX (in the context of hydration / progressive enhancement) from moving away from pure HTML.

Would also like to add FAST (Microsoft's component lib) and a community maintained library called Shoelace to the conversation.

Completely forgot about Stencil! Was working on https://github.com/AnalogStudiosRI/www.analogstudios.net and found a WC called web-social-share, which is generated by Stencil and so looked to integrate it, but seemed to find a couple issues with it.

Will see what I can to make it work, starting with this fork.
