Ryzen-Hackintosh

Hackintosh guide for Ryzen system.

Getting started:

Necessary things:

  • Al least 4GB USB stick
  • Time and patience
  • Know your hardware
  • A basic knowledge of command lines and how to use a terminal/command prompt
  • A machine that is compatible as seen in the Compatibility section in Dortania's OpenCore guide
  • An Ethernet connection (no WiFi dongles)

Creating the USB: (for Windows users)

I choose the Disk Management method

  • GUI based, simplest way
  • Only UEFI systems are supported (all Ryzen systems are UEFI)

Simply open up Disk Management, and format your USB as FAT32:

  1. Right click the Start Button on your task bar and select Disk Management.
  2. You should see all of your partitions and disks. On the bottom half, you'll see your devices. Find your USB.
  3. You'll want to format the USB to have a FAT32 partition.
  • If you have multiple partitions on the USB, right click each partition and click Delete Volume for your USB (This will remove data, make sure you have backups and only remove partitions from your USB)

Right click the partition on the USB and click Format and set it to FAT32.

Next, go to the root of this USB drive and create a folder called com.apple.recovery.boot. Then move the downloaded BaseSystem or RecoveryImage files. Please ensure you copy over both the .dmg and .chunklist files to this folder:com-recovery 805dc41f

Now grab OpenCorePkg you downloaded earlier and open it: base-oc-folder 9a1a058a

Choose the X64 files, and move it to your USB. Once done it should look like this: com-efi-done a6fb730e

Now with all these done, let's move on to the next section

Adding the base OpenCore files and gathering files

Cleaning up the EFI:

Lets open up our EFI folder and see what's inside: base-efi 7500e22d

Delete all files in Driver and Tools, except OpenRuntime.efi and OpenShell.efi

Now you can place your necessary firmware drivers(.efi) into the Drivers folder and Kexts/ACPI into their respective folders.

Reminder:

  • SSDTs and custom DSDTs(.aml) go in ACPI folder
  • Kexts(.kext) go in Kexts folder
  • Firmware drivers(.efi) go in the Drivers folder

Gathering files

This section is for gathering miscellaneous files for booting macOS, I do expect you to know your hardware well before starting and hopefully made a Hackintosh before as I won't be deep diving in here.

What's the best way to figure out if my hardware is supported?

Read Dortania's OpenCore Hardware Limitations page

Firmware Drivers

Firmware drivers are drivers used by OpenCore in the UEFI environment. They're mainly required to boot a machine, either by extending OpenCore's patching ability or showing you different types of drives in the OpenCore picker(ie. HFS drives).

  • Location note: These files must be placed under EFI/OC/Drivers/

Universal

For the majority of systems, you'll only need 2 .efi drivers to get up and running:

  • HfsPlus.efi
  • OpenRuntime.efi (included in OpenCore release)

Kexts

Remember, always download the Release

  • Lilu
  • VirtualSMC
    • Add these specific kexts:
    • VirtualSMC
    • SMCSuperIO
    • SMCAMDProcessor (included in AMDRyzenCPUPowerManagement files)
    • SMCRadeonGPU (for Radeon GPU users)
    • AMDRyzenCPUPowerManagement
  • WhateverGreen
  • AppleALC
  • Ethernet kext: depends on your motherboard, product spec pages will most likely list the type of network card.

SSDT

Building the firmware

config.plist file:

  • Too long, read this

BIOS Settings

Things to disable:

  • Fast Boot
  • Secure Boot
  • Serial/COM Port
  • Parallel Port
  • Compatibility Support Module (CSM)
  • IOMMU

Things to enable:

  • Above 4G Decoding
  • EHCI/XHCI Hand-off
  • OS type: Windows 8.1/10 UEFI Mode (some motherboards may require "Other OS" instead)
  • SATA Mode: AHCI

Done! Now try to booting up your rig with OpenCore and install macOS like a real Mac :D

I uploaded my EFI, it runs flawlessly, if you have same hardware, feel free to use my EFI

My specs:

Motherboard: MSI A320M Pro-VH Plus

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200

RAM: TeamGroup TForce VulkanZ 8GB x2 (XMP enabled)

GPU: Zotac GTX 650 1GB

CRITICAL

BEFORE USING MY EFI, PLEASE REPLACE THE SMBIOS!

Special thanks to OpenCore's developers, such a great work! Copyright Dortania's OpenCore guide
