Description of changes

  • Unpin electron version:
Upstream updates usually fix electron incompatibilities and we also have a test which can detect them. (electron-bin is chronically outdated #295770)
  • Add updater script:
It scrapes the upstream website for the current version number. Lets hope the website structure doesn't change too much.
  • Update to the latest version

Things done

I can't test on darwin currently, but the dmg folder structure is the same between versions, so I suspect it will work.

  • Built on platform(s)
    • x86_64-linux
    • aarch64-linux
    • x86_64-darwin
    • aarch64-darwin
  • For non-Linux: Is sandboxing enabled in nix.conf? (See Nix manual)
    • sandbox = relaxed
    • sandbox = true
  • Tested, as applicable:
  • Tested compilation of all packages that depend on this change using nix-shell -p nixpkgs-review --run "nixpkgs-review rev HEAD". Note: all changes have to be committed, also see nixpkgs-review usage
  • Tested basic functionality of all binary files (usually in ./result/bin/)
  • 24.05 Release Notes (or backporting 23.05 and 23.11 Release notes)
    • (Package updates) Added a release notes entry if the change is major or breaking
    • (Module updates) Added a release notes entry if the change is significant
    • (Module addition) Added a release notes entry if adding a new NixOS module
  • Fits CONTRIBUTING.md.

I'd like to add the nixosTests.breitbandmessung to electron.passthru.tests, but that can be done separately

Things changed:
- Unpin electron version. Upstream updates usually fix electron incompatibilities and we also have a test which can detect them. (NixOS#295770)
- Add updater script. It scrapes the upstream website for the current version number. Lets hope the website structure doesn't change too much.
- Update to the latest version

Tested on x86_64-linux and the diff looking good to me.

I see the unpinning of electron as slightly risky, and I even doubt that the test can detect most incompatibilities, but I'm willing to give it a try.
