That works for the version, yes. But it doesn't work for the git hash. Since it uses the debug module.
I tried being consistent in the method applied to get these versions in there. But, I have no strong opinion on how we get it there.
Would you rather see the ldFlags approach for the version, and the patch for the git hash?

I don't have strong opinion, I am just offering options.
patch is more correct, ldflags is less code :-)
