Battle of the Bands Homepage

Welcome to our landing page for our event, "Battle of the Bands"! The schedule at which we hold these are a little irregular, but we try to host them during break times around school schedules for younger players, and peak times of work requests off for the older! You can follow our Twitter for the most recent updates, and when we announce a new one you'll catch it! There is also a discord server for our community, so come hang out!

As of 2019, we will no longer be hosting Battle of the Bands.

General Outline

The Battle of the Bands is a special event hosted by the staff of Bandori.Party and other community members! After filling out the sign-up sheet, @Server Event Staff will assign you to a team based off of personal preference, skill level, and availability. You will be placed into your bands prior to the start of the BoB (Battle of the Bands), and then the event will commence! Through Battles and Missions, you’ll earn points for the team you’re representing! Once everything is over, the final results will be calculated, rewards will be handed out, and that’s that! Sounds simple, right?

How does it work?

BoBv4 will be split up into 2 sections: Missions and Battles. Both of these have been integral aspects in previous BoBs, however we’re revamping both this time around! Our focus will shift from playing matches (aka Battles) to completing Missions! You are not required to participate in both Missions and Battles, however you must participate in at least one. Both Missions and Battles will give you points that will add up to create your band’s total points! The band that gets the most points from both aspects will be the winner of BoBv4!

Missions

Introduced in BoBv2, Missions are one way to gain points for your band! The IE team (the staff in charge of missions) assigns groupies challenges each day in #missions_info, and upon completion they are awarded points for your band!

How to complete missions?

While the requirements for completing a mission aren’t too obtuse, it’s still something that can be confusing. Thus, here’s a quick and easy guide to completing a mission.

Step 1. Choose a mission

Go to #mission_info and look over the available set of Missions! Figure out which you think you can do right now, and then get everything you need!

Step 2. Prepare for the mission

Are you hydrated? Is your phone fully charged? Do you have enough participants to actually complete the Mission? If you need other groupies, feel free to ask around in your team chat or #mission_matchmaking to see if anyone else can help you out with the Mission. Once you’ve completed your preparations, you can move on to completing the challenge!

Step 3: Do the mission

Whether it be drawing, trivia, or intense gameplay, you’ve gotta actually complete the Mission at some point. Complete your activity in #mission_matchmaking, and make sure to have all the appropriate screenshots/resources you need for submission.

Step 4: Submit the mission

After you’re done, go to #[your team name]_missions_submissions and submit your mission! If an @Mission Captain clears it, then you’re done! If they don’t however, you’ll need to re-do the mission and re-submit for points.

That’s all you need to know to complete Missions! Are you ready for the challenge?

What types of missions are there?

Individuals

Easy (x3) - 30 points each | Normal (x3) - 40 points each | Hard (x3) - 50 points each

Completing a full set of missions (all easy, normal, or hard) will give 5/10/15 bonus points. These bonus points can only be obtained once.

Up to 5 of these will be available for completion per day. Groupies are allowed to submit more then 5, but we’ll only count the ones that overall give them the most points.

Extended

Easy (x3) - 30 points each | Normal (x3) - 40 points each | Hard (x3) - 50 points each

These function the same as Individuals, except that they can be completed during any part of the BoB! Even if you’re busy during the main days of the BoB, you can still submit these in-between.

Group Missions

Group Battle (x2) - 3x Battle Placing Point Gain [1st: 150, 2nd: 120, 3rd: 90, 4th: 60, 5th: 30]

These missions are competitive and work similar to Battles in that regard. All 5 teams will fight against each other, to see who can get the best score in a mission (Most perfects, highest total combo etc.), but unlike in battles, the team works together, meaning four Groupies and one Mission Captain will participate in one big match. The Mission Captain will screenshot the end results, just like in battles, and submit it to the @IE Team]. These can, of course, be redone even after submitting them.

Regular (x1) - 10 points per participant [50 total]

These missions can be done with any groupie from any team, but only groupies who haven’t completed the mission before will gain points. The team(s) with the best performance will get a special shout-out at the end of the day!

Mini Group (x1) - 10 points per participant [20-30 total]

These missions are the same as Regular Group missions, except that these missions only require 2-3 groupies, instead of 5. The best performing team for these will also get a special shout-out at the end of the day!

Non-Bandori Missions

These missions will allow you to get points for your team without having to play lives in the game itself! As for what the missions are… it’s a secret! You’ll have to wait and see each day what special missions are in store for you!

How to submit missions?

Have one of the participants of the mission go to #[your team name]_missions_submissions, and make a post with the following:

  • The Mission Type and Identifier (ex.Individual Hard)
  • The User(s): (ex. @LatidoReMe, @Passionate, and @Trashi)
  • The Specified Screenshot: Each mission will have the specified screenshots needed to prove completion. Either insert a link to them or upload them directly with your posting so that we can verify you completed the mission

An @Mission Captain will react with either a ✅ or a ❌ to indicate the status of your submission (❌ means there was something wrong with your submission and they'll inform you how to fix it, and ✅ means you’re good) and you’re done! You’ve submitted your mission.

Battles

Battles are matches held throughout the duration of the BoB! Many returning BoB participants will know what Battles are (we just finally gave it a term!), but if you’re new to the BoB, don’t fret! In Battles, you will duke it out with 4 other players (one from each band, not including the one you’re in). Everyone is awarded points, but the higher the accuracy, the more points you’re awarded. Battles will be hosted by the 5 Battle Captains -- one for each band.

Note: If you’re interested in Battling, be prepared to go against other players that can play well. These players will typically Full Combo songs and have fairly decent accuracy. Are you up for the challenge? If so, sign up to Battle!

There will be 5 blocks where Battles are hosted. Blocks are 30 minute periods in which you drop by and play matches to get points for your team! There will be one each day, except for November 4th (the last day of BoB4). We will host 2 blocks on the last day to ensure each Battle Captain is able to host their own block.

Note: If there end up being a multitude of people who want to be Battle Captains, we may add blocks accordingly. We will do our best to accommodate a time to fit as many available people that we can.

Head on over to #bob_matchmaking during an enemy Captain’s scheduled block time to participate in Battles for your team!

@here signup

When the message above pops up in #matchmaking_bob, react with your team logo for a chance to rep your team!

Using our favorite bot @Kanae, we randomly choose between you and any other of your teammates who signed up to play that match! We also use @Kanae to randomly choose a song theme for the round, and then all is set! If you got picked, then once @ed by the captain with a room code, you enter the private multilive room provided and begin the round! You either choose a song from the theme or select [Any/Omakase], and then you give it your all in the live! Once the live finishes, you’ve completed a match! You don’t have to do anything else to earn your team points for this match.

After that captain’s block, they will calculate the results (check out Scoring System down below for details), and post them ASAP! With those results, you’ll get to see how many points you contributed to your team.

Ta-da! You’ve Battled in the BoB, and earned your team some points!

Scoring System

Similar to the previous BoB’s, we’re using a “Perfect 9001” system to calculate the scores for battles! With a new 90/10 % split between Performance and Difficulty and an adjustment for Special difficulty songs, the scoring system aims to fairly distribute scores equal to the merit of one’s live.

Here’s the formula:

(Perfects * (Greats x .7) * (Goods x .4) * (Bad * .2)) / (difficulty's note count) / (9001 * .9)) + (((difficulty's note count / sum of all difficulties' note counts)*(notes per second/10)) / (greatest possible ^^^/ (9001 x .1))

That can be a lot to take in, so let’s look at each section by itself.

Performance

To calculate 90% of the score, we look at a groupie’s performance, and give out points based off of the types of notes they hit! Whether it be 100 notes or 1000 notes in total, 90% of your score is based off your performance on said difficulty alone!

Value Per Note: Perfects: 100%, Greats: 70%, Goods: 40%, Bads: 20%, Misses: 0% We divide the value of all the hit notes together by the selected difficulty’s note count, and then make it worth 90% of the total score.

(Perfects * (Greats x .7) * (Goods x .4) * (Bad * .2)) / (difficulty’s note count / 9000 * .9)

Difficulty

To calculate the other 10% of your score, we calculate the groupie’s difficulty based off the notes per second, and the weight of the difficulty’s notes.

((difficulty's note count / sum of all difficulties' note counts)*(notes per second/10))

Afterwards, we compare our calculated difficulty to the max possible calculated difficulty for that song, and then make it worth 10% of the total score.

(calculated difficulty / (greatest possible calculated difficulty / (9001 x .1))

Final Score

In the end, we combine the score from Performance and Difficulty to give the groupie their final score for that live!

Banned Cards

We do not allow the use of Perfect Lock cards in the BoB. Any Missions that use Perfect Locks will be invalidated, and any matches within Battles that use Perfect Locks will be considered void. For a list of cards that are Perfect Lock, please click HERE

You are responsible for checking if your center card is a Perfect Lock or not. Ignorance is not an excuse for breaking this rule.
