This Mail program was literally dead. Keeping these "debloating" settings may have a sense, but there is no security impact. it is as opinionated as Arkenfox. Disabling any update notifications or donation appeals has no privacy benefit and comes from a really toxic "free as in free beer" perspective. I would be happy to comment these lines out, also because it may be interesting for users to get news from Thunderbird

hello again @HorlogeSkynet you kicked a hornets nest by pinging me, so get ready... i don't agree entirely with @boredsquirrel (no offense), particularly with the statement that inhibiting donations could harm the project, however, assuming there are no privacy issues with enabling my opinions regarding Mozilla are admittedly contradictory; while i recommend Firefox, i do so only because i see it as the lessor evil at this time regarding harming the Thunderbird project, Mozilla rakes in a ton of money (1.1 billion in assets in 2021) and would continue to do so even if Firefox (and Thunderbird) disappeared and their partnership with Google dried up, so if a lack of donations kills Thunderbird, it would certainly not be because Mozilla lacked the resources using Firefox as an example, one might naturally assume that their donation will be applied to that project when, in fact, it may be used to support highly controversial political causes which the donator may strongly oppose, so how can one know that donations made to Thunderbird are actually used for Thunderbird? my respect for Mozilla, both from a software and a wider POV, has been eroded over the years as a result of some of the wildly stupid decisions they've made, the plethora of unethical companies they choose to partner with, and their corrosive political views, such as financing domestic movements which engage in terrorism yes, Mozilla deserves credit for continuing the Netscape project, however, like virtually all corporations that are built upon an ethical foundation, they have long since deviated from their roots and, in my considered opinion, ought to be boycotted that said, again, i hesitantly use and recommend Firefox (and Thunderbird) ... for now ... because i see Mozilla's Firefox as the lessor evil from a privacy point of view references... |
PS: i neglected to mention that my comments are based on my understanding that TB was brought under Mozilla's roof once again |

Hello to everyone here, I've re-disabled donation appeals (footer notification) according to discussion that we had here. I'm merging this branch which thus re-enable start page.
