  • Have you followed the guidelines for contributing?
  • Have you checked that there aren't other open pull requests for the same formula update/change?
  • Have you built your formula locally with brew install --build-from-source <formula>, where <formula> is the name of the formula you're submitting?
  • Does your build pass brew audit --strict <formula> (after doing brew install <formula>)?

CC @DomT4

Multiple CVEs and no releases since 2004.

No objection from me 👍. Not something I've ever used myself, just noticed it pop up on Debian's security list.

I understand the trouble that a package with no upstream maintainer can pose, and I do use bchunk from time to time when I need to convert old mixed-mode CD image backups for use on macOS. I can always fall back to building from source myself in future, but I did want to just let you know that there is still at least one user of bchunk from Homebrew out here on the internet who appreciated this formula existing.

@csnover I'm happy to re-add it if you can convince upstream to cut a new release with the CVE fixes included. There is still contact information on http://he.fi/bchunk/ so even though there hasn't been any activity in 10 years, someone might respond. In the meantime you can put the formula in your own tap.

Josephs-MacBook-Pro:~ joe$ brew install bchunk
Error: No available formula with the name "bchunk"
==> Searching for a previously deleted formula...
bchunk was deleted from homebrew/core in commit 3b56ed6:
  bchunk: delete (https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew-core/issues/20471)

To show the formula before removal run:
  git -C "$(brew --repo homebrew/core)" show 3b56ed6^:Formula/bchunk.rb

If you still use this formula consider creating your own tap:
  https://docs.brew.sh/How-to-Create-and-Maintain-a-Tap.html
