What this script can do:

Commands:
usage: moncontrol.py [-h] [-m] [-s] [-c] [-p] [-d]

optional arguments:
-h, --help show this help message and exit
-m, --monitoring-connectivity
script will running permanently and check cabels connection. When condition of any cabel change, script will position monitors according to your previous settings.
-s, --set-monitors-positions-manually
in this mode u can position monitors (its position only in horizontal line now) much easier, comparing with xrandr

-c, --choose-one-of-saved-positions-of-monitors You can pick one of yours previously saved monitors positions settings -m, --match-monitor-with-cable
this command will execute mode, that will help u understand, which monitor connected in specific port
-w, --watch-saved-positions
show you all previously saved positions of monitors
-d, --delete-saved-config
delete certain previously saved configs

Dependencies:

  • xorg
  • xrandr
  • poetry (this is modern pip`s analog)
  • direnv (its not obligatory, but helpfull)

Setup:

Install dependencies:

  • install xorg and xrandr (but you probably already have them)
  • install poetry with:
    curl -sSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/python-poetry/poetry/master/get-poetry.py | python -
  • install direnv

Install moncontrol:

# clone this repo
git clone https://github.com/HappyCthulhu/moncontrol
# go to moncontrol directory
cd moncontrol
# create virtual enviropment
poetry install
# launch script, that create moncontrol-bash script in /bin
sudo ./setup
# check moncontrol work
moncontrol -h

If u want moncontrol works permanently, u can add moncontrol -m to your systemctl
