Nuclear reactor setup

Setup

My setup looks like this, I build my Nuclear Reactor and my Hot coolant Turbine next to it.
The overclock is disabled on this multiblock. The Nuclear reactor will output hot coolant.
Hot coolant goes to Turbine. I place a tank of coolant next to my nuclear reactor, its important to regulate the fluid later.

How to make the Reactor up and running

First I choose a recipe:

In this recipe, its a LV recipe, takes 500 sec and the most important part, it produces 22C of heat.

Next, I choose Coolant

In my case, I take Steam.

Then I want to Start the Reactor

I regulate the coolant input to the Reactor with the amount write coolant Needed.
Here I regulate to 22 buckets/ sec.

Now I put my fuel in it.

The reactor is now running

  • heat produce: Recipe produces 22C
  • Additional temperature: will see later
  • Coolant needed: you should regulate the fluid pump to that number, if it is lower, the reactor will not run, if it is higher it will overclock.
  • Coolant ration: its the ration to compute the overclock

Additional temperature

The core block inside the reactor add more temperature to the current recipe.

  • thorium: 0C
  • uranium: 2C
  • Plutonium: 10C
  • Americium: 15C
  • Curium: 25C
  • Berkelium: 35C
  • Californium: 50C
  • Einsteinium: 75C
  • Fermium: 100C
  • Mendelevium: 200C You can mixup the core block

Overclock

The Reactor will not overclock with energy input hatches. In the late-game, you will need more nuclear components. So to speed up the recipe, you can add more coolant, each coolant ratio added in surplus of coolant needed will speed up the recipe by 1 sec and produce more hot coolant. Keep in mind, the reactor is a close loop you will never lose coolant.

Whats next

This setup is not enough to produce some sort of power. You will need to adjust recipes, and add more Nuclear Reactor.
The Nuclear Reactor Breeder work in the same way as the Nuclear reactor, but will produce less heat but it will help you to produce a higher tier nuclear component. To produce enough hot coolant to make de turbine up and running, you will need: ~300C for steam ~150C for Deuterium ~75C for Sodium Potassium alloy ~70C for Sodium ~35C for FLiNaK ~40C for FLiBe ~45C for Lead Bismuth Eutectic
