Problems with [email protected] and favicon during snowpack dev

I have an issue with snowpack dev in the 2.10.2 version. I noticed all of a sudden that snowpack dev wasn't working after a clean install, and specifically with no node_modules/.cache folder present. I noticed that 2.10.2 was recently out and tried 2.10.1 and it worked again.

The problem is that snowpack dev hangs at 100% cpu, but nothing happens after updating dependencies... is shown. I've created a minimal repository to reproduce the error. I suspect it's related to a favicon in my public folder. If I remove it, the problem disappears, i.e. snowpack dev populates the .cache folder and starts up.

Thanks so much for diving in! Yes this was a very confusing bug! But it was definitely a bug, as confirmed by your very-helpful reproduction. As @gr2m and I discovered, we need more debug messages in Snowpack to help with debugging.

I have a fix PR here, which I was able to run your repo with no problem: #1017. We even added some debug messages in this PR, so you’ll see more helpful info now when you run snowpack [dev|build] --verbose

No problem. This is my specialty lol :) I was debugging dist-node/index.js and noticed it hangs on await getInstallTargets(config) but maybe I can stop digging further now that you have pin pointed the problem.

Just released 2.10.3 and I’m able to run the dev server on your repo again.

Remember to run snowpack dev --reload the first time, or simply delete your node_modules and reinstall. There may be a cached install that’s bad, and either will clear that out.
