FreeBSD is a direct descendant of BSD, which was historically called "BSD Unix" or "Berkeley Unix" The basic merit of FreeBSD is its great stability and the possibility to operate for years without rebooting. FreeBSD is a complete operating system including all userland utility, driver, Kernel and Documentation. FreeBSD is an OS that is primarily used for high-end servers and other tasks that are invisible to most end users. FreeBSD has other rare uses, including as a desktop OS replacement.
