So this one should be fixed whenever the next Gutenberg release makes it into wpcom prod. Likely it's fixed from my PR in WordPress/gutenberg#32747 I tested this myself on browserstack w/ Safari 13 + a simple test site. The before shows the glitch, and after is what the site looks like with the most recent release (gutenberg-edge),

Another issue 4122532-zen |
Gutenberg v11.0.0 was deployed on wpcom yesterday as per p7DVsv-caV-p2, which includes the fix @gwwar mentioned in #53401 (comment). It looks like that might have fixed this - a user in https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/black-out-when-i-edit-my-post-that-i-can-get-rid-of/ reports that the issue is now gone for them in Safari 13.1.2 |
Just noting that I've received a few customer confirmations now that this is in fact resolved and working properly for them now. Have also done a couple of tests myself and all seems well (so far). |
I also added a public write up if y'all were curious on what was happening: https://gwwar.com/2021/07/08/debugging-hard-things-safari-edition/ Much appreciated, if we could also close this issue out if we have a confirmed fix for folks. |
User had this issue using Safari 13.1 on Mac OS X 10.13.6 from 30075747-hc Recent chat 30604975-hc shows the issue has been addressed, so it looks promising that the issue may have been resolved. :) |
Another report hc-30152950 |
We're not out of the woods yet. Here's another report I got today: 30638950-hc |
@KirkwallDay did they have an old version of Calypso running? Eg did they leave their editor window open for a long time without refreshing the browser? |
@gwwar Didn't notice this at the time. I think you're right, they had a window open for a long time without refreshing. I didn't ask them this, but that sounds right to me. I haven't run across this since my last comment. |
Closing as fixed. Thanks for patience on this everyone! |
