Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Go to a Simple site.
  2. Use any theme. I was able to confirm the issue with TTO, Rivington, and Spearhead.
  3. Add a Cover block in a Page or a Post.
  4. Apply Wide Width or Full Width. You will notice it has no effect on the editor window.
  5. If you check the live page, you can see the changes.

Screen recording: https://d.pr/i/dPJcNh

What I expected to happen

The Full Width or Wide Width settings should apply in the editor view as well.

What actually happened

There was no change when Full Width or Wide Width was applied.

Context

User in chat was having trouble editing content in narrow cover block. The cover block is actually set to Full Width.

Is this specific to the applied theme? Which one?

I was able to reproduce with multiple themes in Simple sites.

Does this happen on simple or atomic sites or both?

Was not able to reproduce in AT sites.

Is there any console output or error text?

No

Level of impact (Does it block purchases? Does it affect more than just one site?)

High

Reproducibility (Consistent, Intermittent) Leave empty for consistent.

Screenshot / Video: If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.

Seen during Quick Start session 4044952-zd-woothemes

I also noticed it happens for some Block Patterns too. They don't display full or wide width in the editor but display as expected on the front end.

Another case 4044948-zd-woothemes

The Block Patterns are not displayed full width despite being set as such in the Editor. They display well on the front end.

So the bug is affecting the Group Block too, and Media & Text Block, not only Cover Block.

By the way, also most of the Block Patters look all cramped together and not full width as they should in the Block Inserter.

If you preview the page/post, the frontend is not affected, only the Editor view.

I just ran into the same issue with the core image block. Theme is Twenty Twenty One.

Wide/Full size appears unchanged both in the editor and in the pop-up preview. I only see the correct alignment after publishing the post and checking it on the front end.

Hello friends, thank you so much for reporting this!

I tested it in detail and it seems to be coming from the core version of the editor. More specifically, from the newest version of the plugin. I am closing this in favor of WordPress/gutenberg#32466

Please add any additional comments there.
