It might be a good idea to clear the network field when they change the client settings to avoid getting no data because (I am assuming, please correct me if I am wrong) the various clients rarely have the same network field names.

if clearing just the network field is enough when the client changes? Do we also need to clear channel or location, or are those values independent of the selected client?

in general they are independent and can stay. those are fairly common across all stations.

clearing the network (and station) is just a subtle reminder to the user that their query has fundamentally changed.
