WISH: Short List Followed by Expanded List

This wish has N aspects: (1) a short compact summary, (1a) inline in a paragraph, or (1b) as a separate but still compact list; (2) the expanded items; (3) auto updating features.

Here is a compact separate list

Here are expansion paragraphs:

(1) A Short Compact Summary: I often find it useful to start explanation as "This topic has three subtopics: A, B, C."

(1a) Inline in a Paragraph: yada yada yada

(1b)A Separate but Still Compact List: Indeed, I would like generically to be able to switch from an inline list, with multiple items in the same paragraph, to a list with 1 line for each item.

(2)The Expanded Items: beginning with the short heading that was in the compact list, by providing more stuff, more text. Perhaps just a single paragraph, with the short heading bolded at the beginning. Perhaps distinct sections.

(3) Auto Updating Features:

• edit the compact headings ==> automatically update the headings in the expanded lists, and vice versa
• reorder ...
• keep the count of subitems consistent
• change capitalization between the inline and out of line compact and expanded lists

Yes, I know, the subsection numbering in my example is inconsistent (1a), (1b) vs (1i) (1ii). Need I say more?
