Toptal interview
in the last couple of months .. I was looking for any sort of freelancing jobs that I can do from home since i was looking for a source of money to cover my study needs ..I have signed up at upwork and got 3 jobs so far (average 20 ๐ต ) ๐ฐ .
then, I found this article ๐ฎ while I was surfing and in another article, he talked about another amazing freelancing website called Toptal. instantly I applied for Toptal and found out that they have a little bit different process than any freelancing website.
unlike any other freelancing website , they have a hiring process for freelancers to check out that they are really qualified to work..besides some sort of filtration for the clients as well.
after applying they told me that the interview will be 4 phases: behavioral interview, Coding Test, live coding with a software engineer, final project.
I will be sharing here what I have done in each phase.
today I have passed the first phase of the interview, it was pretty nice and friendly with a cool recruiter ๐ฉ , we talked using Hangouts and the questions were about getting some information about me and my experience, then she told me that I have accepted and gave me some tips on how to prepare for the next steps, she sent me a coding test on Codility.
now I will have two days to take the test and it will be 90 minutes long with 3 programming problems varies in difficulty and Its okay to use any programming language. so, that's it!.. wish me luck in the next phase! :)
ohooo ๐ ๐ โ๏ธ ..I just passed the coding test phase!.. it was a pretty nice experience, actually and it was about solving 3 problems as I mentioned earlier:
- the first was pretty easy..it took 10 minutes from me .. it's about finding out if just one swap would make the array sorted. (i got 100%).
- the second was medium took around 20 minutes.. finding the number of zigzags in a binary tree (my code wasn't efficient, so I got 25%).
- the third was a bit tough for me ..took the rest of the time and finally I just handled some of its test cases with (8% score).
the overall score: 44% .
and just after finishing the test, I got an email telling me to get ready for the next phase and to schedule a time to meet with a software engineer.
๐ I chose Friday 14-July, now I will have to start preparing for it!.. wish me luck guys! ๐
edit : now I've started an intern at Smart Com .. so I will reschedule the interview until the end of this month.
